Getting the AC working again

I've got a 77 C-10 with A/C installed. All of the components are there, and at one point in time, did work.

Now, however, the drive belt is missing, so the compressor isn't actually hooked up. I bought the truck from my grandfather, and he told me what was wrong with the A/C way back in the day, but of course now I can't remember what it was. I'm thinking I might just buy a belt and give it a shot, but is there anything else I should know/consider? I don't have much spending money, but it's damn muggy outside and it would be great to have A/C

Usually if the belt is off it means the compressor or compressor clutch was noisy and/or locked up. You can try to turn the compressor over with a socket and ratchet before you put a belt on it. If it turns easily put a belt on it and go from there. If not, change the compressor, drier, and orifice tube. Add 134 adapter ports and have it serviced.

Thanks for the info. I think the compressor spins freely, but I'll double check that when I get a chance.
