Re: 66 lwb tub n dub
Got some stuff done on the demon.
Painted some parts and moved the cab forward.. pretty happy with that textured graphite metallic and the clear-coat. pictures don't do it justice at all. Time for some cutting to remove the rear x-member and coil buckets.. then repainting the frame to match front.

Re: 66 lwb tub n dub
CdM, First big kudos on how nice its coming out. I just cut out the rotted wood on my '55 and pressure washed the cross sills and frame but honestl it didn't remove a heck of a lot. SO, I'm getting ready to clean off the light surface and I'm wondering what you used on your frame? I'm thinking of one of those knotted type wire wheels on a grinder...by any chance is this what you used? Also, what did you paint the frame with? I bought some KBS Rust Seal but I know a guy that used Rustoleum Pro hammertone black and it came out AMAZINGLY good.

yes sir, I used about 4 different kinds of wire wheels. I did use two on the grinder. One was braided and one was straight. Then I grabbed a small medium and large round for a hand held drill. Some wire brushes, sandpaper and about 6 hours a day for a week and a half.. I bet i removed 60 lbs of dirt grease and of course my best friend as of late Mr. Rust I then primed with the rustoluem rust inhibiting. I spent alot of time on the frame. so i felt like the rust seal stuff was a bit much. All the grease actually preserved the frame somewhat. I used dupli color rubberized undercoat inside the frame rails and rustoleum's rubberized on the outside.( it lays flatter for more visual surfaces). Then painted away with rustolem's Graphite metallic. not a pro job by any means. Just what my budget is dictating right now. Seems sturdy so far. I've been banging the frame around quiet a bit and haven't seen any damage yet. Good luck the dust mask will be your best friend Nice truck you have there!!

Re: 66 lwb tub n dub
So the last couple days I've been working on the truck. Stripped all the old seam sealer off the cab. Found some old body work that was done to the drip lip.. half ass to say the least but oh well. I guess that's what the process is all about. with the removal of each panel she's telling me her life story.
Removed 52 rivets for the rear cross member, frame gussets shock, bump stops, and some random exhaust bracket. Pretty sure im done with the rivet deal or at least i hope so. I got bored after the first ten. Started busting the crap off of the firewall. Now shes getting spoiled. Ordered all the panels for the cab today @ a whopping 396 dollars shipped... that should be a fun process as well. But progress is progress. Went shopping today as well... some goodies for 200 bucks *under dash ac unit new and a condenser * center console outta some 60's era car and a engine hoist. super stoked on that one. No more moving the cab and bed by myself.

Re: 66 lwb tub n dub
<< this guy is funny
the console is going to get a lift job. I'd like to use it to store my amp and capacitor a couple switches and still have the little insert. Should be a blast to make it work when i get to that stage. next is patch panels and firewall sealing.

Re: 66 lwb tub n dub
Spent the last two days re-arranging the garage around this space guzzling project So i needed to drop the frame closer to where she will sit when she's done Really started to get a mental image of the finished product.
Im really starting to have a blast on this build

Me too! I think it looks like some cool 50's or 60's era toaster or something...looks more like it came from the world's fair "kitchen of the future" than a car but I like it! Any idea what model car it's from?

Re: 66 lwb tub n dub
Just been working on the cab for the last few days. Filing firewall holes and about 50 screw holes in the cab. Rust panels should be here in the next day or two. I'm trying to get this cab ready for paint in the next couple days
but it is by far a time consuming project. Hopefully its the biggest time stealer left. but every time i say that to myself, i look at the bed sitting in the driveway.... oh well for the love of it i guess

Re: 66 lwb tub n dub
Sad sad day.. first day Ive been able to mock up the sheet metal pans and rockers. Just saw the drivers side front pillar is tweaked about half and inch. Looks like a nice accident happened. Well have to give them credit... they hid it well.

Re: 66 lwb tub n dub
Back on it... well like everybody else the economy is a nightmare for me.. work has been slow as a turtle here in cali. So i came to the realization that im going to move forward on the truck back to its stock roots. At least i have everything cleaned and painted so When i do slam it, it will be a heck of alot quicker.. Pics to come soon.
