Installed tach now temp gauge is off

Drove my truck around yesterday and it ran great. Took my dash out last night to install my new factory tach and when I took it out today the temp gauge is reading hot!!! Can't imagine anything happen to the engine over night. Thinking it is something with the temp gauge. Any thoughts on whatnthe problem might be?

Re: Installed tach now temp gauge is off

I replaced my idiot lights with instruments and the temp gauge always gave me trouble until I bypassed the original wiring harness and routed a wire right from the sensor to #6 connector.

Re: Installed tach now temp gauge is off

If the green wire to the temperature sensor is disconnected then the dash unit will read hot. To test the circuit ground the green wire with the key on. If the gauge reads cold then the wire is good.

Re: Installed tach now temp gauge is off

Also if you have a bad ground for your dash panel, it can cause the temp gauge to read high.
