Re: what did you get done 5/30/11 memorial day edition

I got absolutely nothing done on my truck. Probably needed a break from it.

Spent most of the weekend building a deck for the back yard. Not quite finished but we have our first event on the deck this week, so I have to get it done.

To hot to get anything done in the garage. Just cleaned my house so it looked half way decent for the company coming over for a cookout.

Re: what did you get done 5/30/11 memorial day edition

Got up Saturday morning and worked on my grill conversion pieces. They were pitted much worse than I thought, so I laid on several heavy cots of primer the night before. I sanded back to raw metal and the pits were still visible so I hit them with several heavy coats again.

We were supposed to be going to Bro-in-laws house for lunch, but they decided to bring the brisket to my house instead. I had planned to weed my beds on Sunday, but that changed quickly. I spent a few hours weeding and planting before company arrived. The rest of the day was spent with family and friends relaxing around the pool.

Sunday I had a crew of helpers here and we worked on the beds. We also did some sprinkler repairs and moved some plants around. I sanded on my parts a bit more, but didn't get them finished.

Monday I worked in my office till afternoon. Our neighbors were out of town for a funeral, so we grilled and fed them when they got home. Long busy weekend with lots of family and friends.

Life is good...

Re: what did you get done 5/30/11 memorial day edition

We finally opened our pool this weekend. We bought this house in September, just in time for it to start getting colder. We swam in it a few times, and I have been working on keeping it clean ever since. Now I finally feel like it was worth it.

I came in to work Saturday to finish a little prep work on my daily driver, and we shot it yesterday. Much better.

Re: what did you get done 5/30/11 memorial day edition

Finished up the cooling system re-vamp on the dually (cleaned/pressure checked radiator, all new hoses, new t-stat, & water pump). I also removed the hot-air set-up to the air cleaner as it apparently is dead & no longer allowed any outside air to get to the TB once the motor was @ operating temp. Jury is still out on if this solves the 'missing coolant' issue.

Cleaned the flooded garage on Friday & replaced a failed water heater. Still have another to do that's upstairs (preventative measure).

Picked up my brake lines for project 'Recycle' Sat morning. They're plated in black zinc now. I also fabbed up the poster board template for my rear cab tunnel (req'd to clear a 1pc d.shaft). Hope to get the template transferred over to some steel today....

I did the headlight wiring upgrade on the dually. Two relays now control the lights and they are quite a bit brighter. I couldn't tell you how long it took though. Maybe 3 hours??? Got one dim light though and not really sure why (yet).

Installed Satellite radio...took time to do the wiring nice and neat! Installed new dash lens and volt gauge and now waiting on dash pad to arrive from the shop....getting ready for a road trip to the Petit Jean Mtn (Arkansas) Swap meet and show from 16-19 June. Good event, bought this truck there 2 years ago.

Well I recieved a deposit on my 87'... the gentleman will be arriving Sunday to take it home. I worked outside all weekend as I'm doing a major remodel in the garage... I shall post pics of the completed project when it gets done. It takes soooo much time to put together tool boxes, cabinets, etc etc. Funtimes!

Washed my '79, then sanded my hood and tailgate and painted on some racing stripes. Nothin fancy, just spray paint, but it turned out ok, at least it livens the truck up a bit

Re: what did you get done 5/30/11 memorial day edition

Me and a buddy went to the local pick-n-pull Saturday, I grabbed a manual steering box for the S-10 chassis my '50 will be riding on. Got all the air lines plumbed for the suspension on the same '50.

Had a stroke of luck Sunday, after cutting the short wheel base S-10 chassis in half, stretching it 10", dropping in the small block and TH-350 trans, the dang S-10 stock drive shaft fit like a glove!

Wife and I had friends over Sunday afternoon for red meat and other outdoor fixins.

Never touched the Heap all weekend.

Re: what did you get done 5/30/11 memorial day edition

well, got off work early friday and had a friend get my C10 and clan it up for a car cruise friday night, met him at cruise start location and went on the cruise, parked it at the park for a show of sorts and went to fire it up for a buy a bit later, cranked hard then fired, shut it off and when it came time to leave it cranked VERY hard and slow, so i turned off key and tried again, got a "click" from ignition, then tried again and got nothing. Thought it was battery so i ran to parts store MINUTES before closing and bought an optima red top - still no go on crank, so i got a hammer and took 8 blows on my started to fire the truck up.

apparently its time for me to start looking for a high toque mini starter

that pretty much ruined my weekend. talk about embarrassing and disappointing!

I got the starter cleaned out on teh '74 mud truck Saturday. Wife got the garden planted. Got the rear axle casting numbers off the '84. Got the mower blades sharpened, re-installed and the front lawn mowed down. Hung out with my parents and siblings all of Sunday, had some awesome stir fry. Monday did nothing but stare at the '84 trying to figure out what I want to do to it.

Re: what did you get done 5/30/11 memorial day edition

Didn't do anything to my 83 Shorty except figure out how to get it going again. It has a 700R4 that needs fixing, and I think I'm going to swap it out with an SM-465...I miss driving a manual. I'm pretty sure I have all the parts except driveshafts. I'm going to do a parts inventory this week. So hopefully soon the 700R4/NP-208 will come out and an SM-465/NP-203 will go in.
