I went out and took the wire loom out of my donor 91 G20 van this week. The loom is in need of some cleaning and I was wondering if anyone has a good methods of do's and don'ts to do this?

If you are really brave, stick it in the dishwasher. But don't blame me if you end up sleeping on the couch.

I have used WD40 on a rag with good results.

This thread has a few ideas. I've read a few others suggesting electrical contact cleaner like you might find at Radio Shack, but have no idea if that might attack the plastic wire insulation.

There is nothing better to test a relationship than cooking engine parts in the oven or cleaning said parts in the dishwasher.

gojo cream hand cleaner and it will also keep your colored plug wires looking like new..grab a hand full and wipe it down then rinse off with water and let dry...works really good i raced on the local dirt tracks for 25 years and found this to be the only way to remove that stain left from the red clay and rubber and it wont harm your wires or looms in any way

x2 on the gojo hand cleaner. If it's the kind with pumice in it, the pumice acts like a bit of sandpaper for the really grimmy parts.

Thanks Guys,
I tried the wd40 yesterday and it worked well for most of the grime, but I think I may try the gojo for some of the tougher stuff. I can at least make out the colors of the wires now, which helps a lot when trying to read the wiring diagram.
I did read more on my G20 manual and found out the reverse switch and neutral safety is in the steering column on the 91, so it's back out to the donor sometime soon to remove the column.
