Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Currently talking to Mario about getting the truck entered into the Sacramento Autorama show happening in mid-February. Should be able to be home around that time on vacation. He's also offered to loan me his display stuff they use for their Chevelle show car, so that'll help a lot!!!
Contacted the people that run the show about getting the application process started, so we'll see. No reason the truck shouldn't be done by that time & would be a nice venue to get it out there & seen! |

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Speaking of it being done by then. It seems to me that this shop takes their sweet time. It could've been done by February. April at the latest. Just my opinion from seeing what other shops have done in the same amount of time.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
True enough - it has dragged on... A few weeks ago I got them all on a teleconference together to express my "displeasure" with the lack of progress the project was seeing. Since then they have turned up the wick so-to-speak & things are beginning to get done quite a bit faster.
That being said, this is a smaller shop (only like 5 guys on the floor) that stays pretty busy with "quicker" jobs & not long into the build the recession took its toll on them as it did everyone. They had to let their office/project manager go on a leave of absence & that took the focal point of the project away. He's back now & that's helped a lot too. The paint & body work, much like the interior work are being "farmed out" to other shops, so hopefully they won't be the same way. In all honesty, outside of the frustration it's not as big an issue as you might think given that I am overseas & can't drive the damn thing anyway.... I do however REALLY want the truck 100% done & thoroughly tested prior to the February date of this show - NO EXCUSES!!! Also expecting it to be a running (maybe not driving fully) vehicle by the end of the month. Keep checking back - you'll get the updates as soon as I do almost. |

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Looks good! I want to keep my stock calipers too but do you think they are strong enough to stop the truck the same after the heavy modifications? I've read both yes and no depending on the source and I have no idea...

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Well, they are 1-ton brakes on mine from the factory & designed to stop the truck even with a trailer... I am not running really large wheels (16") or tires (33" tall), so I should be pretty good for daily driving situations. Also running an '05 rear axle with the disc brakes & an adjustable proportioning valve as well.

I'm luvin this build, I enjoy seeing the updates but prefer the premium work you are getting here. Quality vs. Quantity.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Ummm, well it appears that my 12 year old daughter is infected by the square body bug too..... Must'a been passed on through my DNA as when she was born I was driving my 82 4x4.
Looks like I'll be picking her up this 77 SWB (same year as mine ) tomorrow night for a Father/Daughter build project as she grows up. Got a few rust issues in the usual places, but nothing catastrophic. It runs out well with a 350/350 combo & it's got A/C to boot! Plans are for a 2.5/4" drop, some 17" shoes & maybe a 4.8L carbureted LS motor in time. Like the paint scheme, so will probably fix the body issues, add a roll pan & have it re-sprayed the same.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
The 77 looks like a clean little pickup, color scheme looks good! I'm not much of a two-tone fan on other vehicles but for some reason most square bodies look "right" with two-tone paint.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
I agree - always had single color paint on all mine, but I do like this color scheme pretty well. Planning to go with these wheels on it & think they'll look GREAT with those colors!!!

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Been following this build from the side lines, as I've also got a '77 K30. I just picked up a '67 C10 and decided I could probably get some good info here so I signed up. Just wanted to chime in and say awesome truck and awesome job! That is some sexy fab work.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Well, finally got word from the shop today.... Sounds like the A/C compressor was hitting the frame rails in the stock LS mounting location so they had to buy a high mount kit for it. They are getting the rest of the accessories on the engine & I should have pics of it all this week as well. Hopefully this won't require much modification to the 3-pc covers to make them fit...

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
If you're referring to the maroon / silver stuff on the crummy, I don't think those were original colors. I found a "gold mine" of a Burban at the local U-Pick and grabbed those fenders and doors. My truck was originally that tomato looking red, which it will be again once I find a bed worth working with.

Re: 1977 Chevy K30 Crew Cab Build
Sorry that it's been a while since I last updated - not my fault I assure you....
Despite me buying an entire front accessory kit new from GM for an '08 truck, the shop had to buy a Kwik Performance high mount kit for the A/C compressor (web pic shown)& then a different power steering pump due to reservoir clearance with the one that I bought - I just came seem to catch a break here!!! Trevor, the guy that owns the shop went on vacation last week, so getting the focus on my truck in that hectic shop is again a dilemma.... Talked to them this morning & cleared up some questions that were holding up some work, so hopefully pics this week (or else all hell is gonna break loose!!!). Still slated to be out there late next month to visit them as well as the interior guy & Mario who's doing all the paint & body work. Doubt I am gonna quite as cheerful & nice as I was last time I visited & if the progress & focus is still lacking then I may just hand the reins over to Mario for the rest of the build. Would cost me more, but I am tired of the BS & the delays.... |
