Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
I am starting to learn that. Wonder if I could locate some 250 4x4 stands and modify the passenger side.

Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
Not sure, but anything is possible. Plenty of guys fab up mounts for small & big blocks. I know the 292 cross member is off-set from one side to the other. Meaning one motor mount is further back than the other side.

Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
Is the crossmember itself offset or just the mount? I have a weird looking diagonal sort of crossmember here that may have came with this truck. It doesn't look anywhere as deep as the v8 crossmember in my 70.

Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
Are these the mounts you are looking for? These are off the frame of a 68 GMC 4x4 SWB. The cross member was fabbed to drop a 292 in for pulling. I sold the engine but saved the engine stands and mounts just in case a guy like you came along. I have no use for these whatsoever, I'll even include the cross member if you need it.
If you click on my project thread in my sig some of the first pics are of the powertrain sitting on the frame and I comment specifically on the mounts. More pics there. Let me know if this is what you need. Thanks, Neil |

Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
Hey Patsfan, Ironically, I just got done looking at your build a little while ago while chasing links looking for the stands/crossmember. I think I found a picture of what the crossmember should look like. It doesn't go straight across. I may even have one at home if I haven't scrapped it since I didn't recognize it. If I don't have the right one, I'll buy yours just to get things in place until I can find a stock one. I'd want the whole crossmember and the other parts so that I can at least get it in the truck as yours was. I won't be able to check what I have until later this afternoon. How much would you want for what you have? Also any other pictures of the passenger side as it was in the truck. Thanks. Frank

Frank I'd really like to get $75 + shipping. I can have them ready to ship as soon as tomorrow.
I think all the pics I had of the mounts and cross member are in my thread...sorry. Neil |

Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
Patsfan, Thank you for your trouble but it turns out I have had the crossmember and stands all along. They got moved to a scrap pile because I didn't know what they were. The clue came from Custom10 when he said that the crossmember was offset. All along I thought it was just the stands. Now I need to blast it, paint it, and get some new motor mounts. If anyone wants to see what a 67 292 4x4 crossmember looks like I can post some pictures. Thanks for the help. Frank

Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
I would like to see them. Seems that nobody out here like IL6s in their 4X4s. WES

Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
No trouble at all Frank. I had the pleasure of meeting Gary (Custom 10) and the guy really knows his stuff. So many people have helped me here when I was in dire straights I just wanted to return the favor!
Yeah definitely post a pic of that bad boy. I'm curious as hell to see what a real one looks like also. Last edited by Patsfan34; 06-08-2011 at 07:30 PM. |

Okay, I will get pictures tomorrow. I am off to see John Prine right now (like anyone knows who that is). It is a weird looking crossmember. Frank.

Re: WTB - 4x4 292 engine stands
The second picture shows the offset best. The crossmember is not perpendicular to the frame like the later years.
