Steering shaft parts sources?

Recently bought a used '71 tilt column and intermediate shaft for my project. The splines on the column end look good. However, some of the splines on the top of the intermediate shaft are smashed and smooth. Only explanation can be the 2 parts came from different vehicles. Question, can I purchase (new preferred) just the top end of this intermediate shaft and the rubber seal anywhere? Or am I stuck trying to find a good used part with clean splines somewhere. See pic. Any help is most appreciated....

Re: Intermediate shaft parts?

Thanks Geoff, this is harder than I expected.....Been researching it more:

Looks like replacement rubber seal is not readily available. Although I found an old thread about using a MC seal.

As far as the bell shaped splined piece shown that connects to the steering column that is best found in junkyard.

Conclusion: I will need another used steering shaft with a good rubber seal and clean straight splines. I cannot repair what I have.

Re: Intermediate shaft parts?

I have one from a mid 80's c10 that I blasted and painted but didn't work with my power steering conversion. Bell and shaft are in good condition. PM me if your interested.

Hoping to stay stock with this. Have someone working now on finding a good steering shaft. The custom units you mention run $250+

Re: Intermediate shaft parts?

I just looked at CPP's website and saw a couple....this one is $109...http://www.classicperform.com/Store/...ck/6768RJC.htm

I know it's not stock but wanted you to see there are affordable alternatives out there....

This one is more stock looking for $69 and all you would need is the u-joint coupler....http://www.classicperform.com/Store/.../RJC736-CS.htm

Either way, I assume posting a WTB ad in the parts area would get you one on the cheap too

Thanks for the links Geoff! This does answer what options are out there. For now I'm planning on using a stock unit and I do have someone working to find me a good one. Appreciate your help!
