Anybody here ever do a LS2 swap? If so how much did it cost? What is all need to something like this

It would be very similar to a 5.3L swap that a lot of us have done. The wiring on an LS2 is ever so slightly different (a few sensors are in diffent locations, but really makes no difference).

The LS2 is a spendy unit compared to a 5.3L or even a truck 6.0L.

I am in the middle of an LS2 swap but not into a pickup. I found a 22,000 mile dropout from a 2006 GTO at LKQ online but Cleveland Pick a Part also shops dropouts. Engine complete with computer, wiring harness, complete front accessory drive, clutch, T56 6 speed trans delivered into my garage was $7200.00.

you can also cam a 6.0 or LSX and make great power for much cheaper than what the LS2s are going for. A full cam set up usually ends up costing me around $1100 for all the parts you would need. Then a tune of $300ish...

Do you actually think you can source a complete LSx motor, clutch, trans, ecm and harness for less than $7000?

You can probably find 2 complete set ups for that price. They are getting easier to find also.

I have bought 2 set ups for under 3k with decent mileage. 2001 motors, both had t56 trannies, Spec 3 clutch, McCleoud (sp) cylinder, full harness, accessories etc...

If you are wanting brand new crate engine, brand new tranny, then yes, you will be in it for around 7k...

All day long. I paid 3k for a low mile LS1, transmission, harness, computer, driveshaft, etc. That was 8 years ago.....

Just picked up a lq4/4l80e w/ 60k miles, harness and computer for 1700.

for compairison, you can get a brand new 6.2L LS3, e rod engine. comes fully loaded, gas pedal, maf, harness, computer, fuel pump, exhaust manifolds with cats and o2s for about 7500$ and a create t56 is about 2700$...and thats dealers priceing...a good low mileage (less then 40xxx) ls2, t56 combo is typically in the 3000-5000 range..

Right now I have right at $2200 in my swap right now and still need exhaust and gauges. $800 of that was my 30k mile 4.8/4L80e with everything but the TAC. This includes parts to convert to auto, power steering with tilt and hydroboost.

If your looking to save some money, use an iron block. They weigh about 100 lbs more and cost half as much.

I like the 4.8 as well. It likes to spin and with an easy mild cam swap (GM's Hotcam for example) they make 324hp. Then if you must have more, throw crank, rods and pistons (they are all plentiful and cheap) and voila.... 5.3. Bore it and you could have an iron 5.7 LS1...

So many choices.......

BTW, I have an Iron LQ4 bored to 370....

Engine on craigslist (80K) with water damage to cylinders (engine fire) $400
Machine work (bore, polish crank, and check rods) $250
New bearings, gaskets etc, $390
243 heads $500
New valves $200
LS6 valve springs $70
Cam $350
Pushrods $100
Pistons $400
Roller rockers (unnecessary) $400
4l80e $400 (bought with engine)

= about $3500

I already had a harness and CPU, but one can be had for under $200.

On the budget end also consider buying a salvaged vehicle. There is a build on here where the person bought an engine and a van came with it. For the price he got it for he basically could have had the engine/tranny/wiring for free after parting out the van and getting scrap prices for the rest. That is my plan when I have the right truck to put it in
