Four radiator swap now fan shroud doesn't fit

Wanting to see if anyone has ran into this or have a solution. I have a 72 gmc long bed with a 350 the owner before me installed a four core radiator and didn't install a shroud. Went to install the new shroud and the lower part of the shroud is about an inche off from the mounting holes. Does the core support have to been changed or do you have to modify the core support to allow it to fit?

Thank you

Donnie

On my 68 there was a metal c channel spacer that went between radiator and shroud. It was about 3/4 wide. 4 core radiator as well. Don't know if thats what your asking though.

I know this isn't a permanent/best solution but you can run some heavy duty cable ties and sinch em up tight if you need too get by.

I just put one on today and had the same problem, I was going to use spacers but instead just put some J nuts on the bottom of the core support and pushed it back tight and bolted it. Worked out just fine...

Re: Four radiator swap now fan shroud doesn't fit

The core support accepts 2,3 & 4 core radiators. The upper and lower brackets and insulators are different. I have seen 4 row radiator shrouds listed. I have a 4 row rad in my 69 and the shroud I have has about a 3/4" gap between the mounting pads and the brackets. As mentioned you can use zip ties for temporary as I have. Fab up some 3/4" spacers to mount it more solidly is a better idea. Cheaper than a new 4 row shroud if you can find one.

Re: Four radiator swap now fan shroud doesn't fit

there are some clips on my 4 core that clip onto the support and hold the bottom of the shroud. Mine is a 4x4 but
i think the clips are the same??

they are factory clips btw

My 67 2wd had a 4 core rad and this is what was in between the rad support and the shroud. It is stamped very nice so it must be factory. I have seen the ones with the clips to.

Re: Four radiator swap now fan shroud doesn't fit

I just took the shroud off my '69 and a junker. Both had clips as well as a couple others in the junkyard. However, the '71s and '72s in the junkyard had different shrouds. I don't recall if they used the clips. I just bought some of these http://www.classicindustries.com/truck/parts/17117.html

Re: Four radiator swap now fan shroud doesn't fit

My original radiator and the replacement are both 4-row core radiators. The original shroud fit both without any issues, but two of the tabs on the shroud will have to be repaired to make it whole.

Seems there are different shrouds based on engine size and with/without AC. Anybody else know?

Re: Four radiator swap now fan shroud doesn't fit

There were/are several different shrouds for our trucks. A quick check of Classic Parts lists 4.
Standard radiator, small block
HD radiator, small block
4wd radiator, small block
Big block

I'll check LMC later.
I have a 4 row in mine and a standard shroud will not bolt up. There is that 3/4" gap between the rad and the mounting ears of the shroud we've been talking about. A couple of guys have a factory looking spacer that came on theirs.

On page 117 of the LMC catalog you'll find the shrouds listed the same way as Classic Parts. Also note there are no spacers shown like the one above.
Could those above be from an aftermarket conversion maybe?
