frame compatiblity
i ran across a 1960 apache swb in the pull-a-parts. i want to use the frame to build my 1972 on. it does have trailing arms and coils in the back already.is this frame usable to put my 1972 parts on (cab,bed, supension)? or are there differences that make this an unreasonable option?

Weren't the 60-62 or 3 torsion bar front ends? I don't know what other differences there might be besides the frame not being dimpled for the PS box and the front suspension.

Yep, I'm pretty sure the '60 had torsion bar front suspension. And I also remember replacement parts for the front suspension aren't cheap on those. Not sure about this but I thought the frame is narrower as well.

Forget the '60 thru '62 frame. The torsion-bar suspension may have been an improvement over the beam axle and leaf springs of the earlier trucks, but GM did the right thing when they went to coil springs for '63. 1963 thru '69 are a good match, but there may be some minor differences when the body changed from '66, for the '67-72's. Rear axle width on the '70-72's is wider than the '60-69's.
The power steering for the torsion-bar front ends is also the linkage type, compared to the '68-72's. It's heavier and prone to leakage....really makes a serious mess.
