Newbie Question 31 vs. 32
I'm new to Chevy Trucks and as I work on bringing my 59 Apache back from disrepair I continue to learn what is what. One thing I have not been able to find out is what is the difference between a 31 and 32 designation?
According to my serial numbers I have a 1/2 ton assembled in Los Angeles. However I have 32 fender emblems, also there is a set of "stops" mounted above the leaf springs on the rear. They are attached to the frame and look like they are designed to stop travel before the rear end hits the bottom of the frame. I'm only guessing here but I think that means my truck is a heavier duty truck...but still a 1/2 ton? Is there such a thing as a "heavy Duty" 1959 1/2 ton? Thanks in advance ya'll. Fredo |

Re: Newbie Question 31 vs. 32
Unless you are positive that the nose is original there is always the chance that the whole nose was changed on the truck emblems and all.
But from what I can find I want to believe a 3100 is a short bed and a 3200 is a long bed. I may be all wet on that one though. Last edited by mr48chev; 06-21-2011 at 01:05 PM. |

3100 is short, and 3200 is long both 1/2 ton.

Re: Newbie Question 31 vs. 32
For 1958 and 1959 they dropped the 0's so the 31 and 32 designations would be the same as 3100 and 3200 in prior years. As everyone else has stated it designates short vs long bed.
