radio suggestions??
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do for the radio? The dash is still in tact so I don't want to cut it up. I usually listen to the radio so CD isn't necessary but I do want a newer unit that has good reception.
Guide me oh wise-ones...

Re: radio suggestions??
I just put this in, happy so far. You can get them on ebay as well as lots of other vendors. Has RCA input so you can plug in your ipod. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1308715899

Re: radio suggestions??
I have that radio and I really like it. Sounds good, four speaker connections, and an aux input (for ipod, ect). I bought mine from LMC but I don't think they sell that model anymore. Check LMC anyways they have a good selection.

Re: radio suggestions??
FWIW, whether to cut or not, is the question.
Mahanian (a member) used to make/sell a billet piece that would clean up a dash opening, or allow you to create a dressy one if you liked. It holds a DIN-sized receiver. In my opinion, it's up to the owner as to which way to go. My son's truck had a 2-shaft radio in it when we got it. He bought a new DIN-sized receiver. It was up to me to make it work. So, out came the Dremel tool and I started making my cuts....as few and as clean as possible. I used the sleeve as my guide. The finished job was good and tidy. When I got my truck, it also had a 2-shaft radio, a Sony. Until I had decided that I would have to have a different cab, I was debating on cutting the dash and I bought one of Mahanians' billet pieces. When I got my replacement cab, the dash was already cut so the billet piece will be of good use. It's an emotional issue for a lot of folks on here, but I'm not so dialed-in to not cutting one that I won't also consider the billet trim piece....which is perfectly-sized for a DIN receiver. Again....it's up to you and what you want.

Re: radio suggestions??
These are great if your looking for something that will fit in the original opening & with better quality internals than the Autosound....so i'm told anyway.

Re: radio suggestions??
I guess I'm one of the dummies that doesn't want to hack a dash....I've got too much sentimental value in my rides to start cutting so I saved a little and put the same radio "gonnuts" showed in my '72 3/4 ton. My '68 has an old Sony (of course shaft mount) from the 80's while my '69 is still original. Dad's '68 C50 and '72 C60 are both original am's as well! Good luck with your decision!

Re: radio suggestions??
I just can't make myself cut the dash. More power to you if you can. Besides, nothing plays Skynyrd and Merle Haggard better than 8 track. And I have AM as a bonus.

Re: radio suggestions??
I put in the same kind of radio as Gonnuts, with a dual coil speaker in the factory speaker location, and 2 5x7 speakers under the seat. No CDs, but I can connect my smart phone and listen to internet radio, so i'm satisfied. Very good sound, and the dash is intact. $159 on eBay, as i recall.

Re: radio suggestions??
I couldn't cut my dash either! I dont wanna put it in the glove box because I dont wanna flip my truck changing stations.
Just got a new JCWhitney catalog today and they have two dbl knob digital radio. The one for $282 comes in either black or grome face and has USB port and a 1/8" jack. Just a suggestion. |

Re: radio suggestions??
I got one from this website;http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sourc...NhHh1fsJA8Kh9A
I didn't want to cut my original dash either. This one is only about THREE INCHES DEEP, so it went in easily. I also purchased the center speaker he recommended. It doesn't have enough base for my taste - but I'll probably add a couple more speakers someday. I really like the fact that it looks almost like the factory AM/FM ( except for the missing "Delco" script in the lower right corner of the dial ) but still has all of "today's" features. I've only heard it one time, since my truck isn't finished yet, so I'll have to report back after I've been riding around for a while, listening to it.

Re: radio suggestions??
For years you could buy in-dash AM/FM/Cassettes that were great quality. I have an Alpine I had in my '84 K/30,along with a 100w amp (and integrated analog cell phone that goes with the stereo...oh well, maybe I sat on that too long). Look around. You can find those still (used). Pioneer Super Tuners are great! A savvy vendor at Carlisle was selling these aftermarket stereos last year. He said most of them he got for free. A lot of people toss these. I could never figure that out. I never thought a factory radio was worth keeping. That was always the first thing to go. Now people buy those and toss the better systems. Unless the truck is 100% original, why not use an aftermarket stereo?

Re: radio suggestions??
Grr, no way am I spending $200 for a radio with almost no frills, time to go to the junkyard for something to fit in the regular spot and hide a new stereo.
