What radiator?

What size radiator should I use for my 56? Would a griffin for a 67 to 69 camaro work? Or are there better options?

Re: What radiator?

I bought one a few years back on ebay listed as a 55-59 rad but it's too wide. It still works, I had to make some adjustments to the core support but no big deal. It might be for a 58-59 if they are wider.

how much would an alum. one run me? w/ oil cooler for an automatic
I find that I'm unexpectantly in the market for one!
Long story short.....When I picked up my truck the PO included a new one he bought... boxed up never opened and definately never used, recently I opened the box and low-and-behold it's for an AD not a TF.... dohhh!

Cost of shipping included would be great as well, been tramatized by the UPS driver a few times on that one.

MGBMIKE:

I am going to run as much as 650 HP and an LS motor.

I heard that you need a model that can accommodate this.

Is this the same price and what is the make?

Re: What radiator?

Should have mentioned it's for a 55 GMC, frame has been modified with a Camaro clip so altering the mounts isn't a big deal. I don't imagine the price is much different for 55-57 and 58-59.
the price is pretty good but I find the shipping is what kills me so the most cost effective method is fine, even if it takes a several weeks is fine by me.

They are made by US Radiator in Vernon Ca about 1 hour from you. You can pick it up if you want. For Tech info you probably would be better off talking to them as I am not a radiator guru and don't claim to be I imagine that the copper and brass high efficiency cooler would work just fine. its a 4 row radiator that cools better than the aluminum ones. They can answer all your questions.

How many miles on the truck since installation? Any problems? How was the fitment?

I don't mind the $369 for the U.S. Radiator one mgbmike lists and its local to me, but IF (and it's a big "if") I can get one for $200 less AND it works, why not? There are plenty of other uses for that $200 on my truck, unfortunately.

Re: What radiator?

I have heard it is best to change the antifreeze every 15,000 miles to protect your aluminum rad and heads.
"I recommend changing the coolant every 15,000 miles or so, even for extended drain interval coolant. As coolant ages it becomes acidic and can even hold an electrical charge. This charge can change the voltage of the engine temperature sensor giving a false reading to the engine computer. Old acidic coolant destroys the aluminum in the radiator and engine head. Any opinions on this:
http://www.championradiators.com/page/423744122
There is also a two row.

Just noticed that the manufacturer is the same as the Egay one previously posted above.

Well cancel the order when i called Wizard Cooling today because they never did anything with my order after three weeks. All he had to say was that he understood why i canceled my order,so now instead of bolting in a radiator i'm looking to place another order for one.Buyers beware when dealing with Wizard Cooling in NY.

Re: What radiator?

I hear that the 47-53 gmc radiators are a little different than chevy version. My question is do you guys think that the original radiators for these trucks have sufficient enough cooling to keep up with a hopped up LS motor. I have a line on a very nice reconditioned one for my Gmc that bolts in for $100.

Re: What radiator?

Btt. So do you guys think the reconditioned original copper/brass one will be sufficient enough for an LS motor?

I doubt it! That is what I have now and need to upgrade. The stock rad was designed for about 5 lbs. of pressure and about 150 horsepower. Mine has failed three times with a first generation small block and I'm shopping. Great price you found tho. I'd also be tempted.

Thanks Poncho. That's all I needed to hear. I'll scratch that off my list and start looking for an aluminum one then
