Re: Engine block vin
No VIN on truck engines. There is a code stamped into the block, just in front of the passenger side head. If you are trying to see if the engine is original to the truck, the only way is if you have the original build sheet or protecto plate that will have the engine code listed on it.

Re: Engine block vin
there is also a stamp on the back below the drivers head you can see with a mirror without removing anything if I remember correctly and then it's easy to find the origin on here

Re: Engine block vin
There are lists of engine codes (LMC truck has one in their catalog) that will at least tell you if the identifying letter codes at the end of the ID, are applicable to your particular (year/model) truck.
In my case, the last two letters indicated it was in the same year/model as my truck. I don't have the build sheet, nor the Protect-O-Plate for my truck, but I'm satisfied that my block is the one my truck came with from the git-go.

Re: Engine block vin
There is a VIN decoder in the front of every LMC catalog.

Re: Engine block vin
The engine block vin is called the block casting number. To decode your block casting number try here.
http://www.chevymania.com/ Click on parts ID, and then blocks.
