K & N Filtercharger

I just finished installing a K & N Filtercharger on my 99 Cop Tahoe. I have driven the Tahoe enough to know how it accelerates and feels. At idle I have a touch of a rumble now and cruising it sounds the same. When you walk on it oh boy, that filter makes seat of the pants difference and sounds super as it sucks all that nice cool fresh air. They guarantee 10 to 15 horsepower with these things and I believe it. We will see if my gas mileage improves.

Re: K & N Filtercharger

I installed one on my 92 Z71. Yes there is a lot of noise but no noticeable power improvement. Gas mileage improved 2 miles on highway, nothing in town.

These Cop Tahoes have 255 HP from the factory ( 94/96 LT1 Caprices were 260hp ) so letting it breath may be just what it needed.

Re: K & N Filtercharger

I have them on my 02 Yukon and 03 4Runner, as well as regular K and N air filters on all my carbureted vehicles. Very pleased with them.

Greg, as long as you keep trying to hear the intake sucking air.....you're mileage is gonna become less than what you wanted. But, you and I are old enough to know what is fun and what isn't. Heck, I'm ALMOST grown....not quite, but almost. Life is good.

Re: K & N Filtercharger

If you haven't had one before, I have two helpful points to a happy K&N...

1, Don't over clean it. It will get gunky looking, but is far from plugging up.

2, Don't over oil it. Remember how it looked when you opened it. Spray it lightly, let it sit, then wipe off all the excess.

I hear ya, but fun is fun, its like back in the day when you reversed an air cleaner on a 283 2bbl just to hear the air sucking into the motor.

Thanks for the tips. I actually bought it used and and was skeptical because I wanted to make sure I got all the parts for it and it was all there including the install instructions and I had it on in just over 2 hours. The filter has some stuff on it but holding it up to the sun and looking from the inside out it is clear. What is this oil you mention do I get that from K & N ?

What he said^^^.

It should be red/pink. And clean it with the stuff that comes in the kit.
