Old school state mud flaps - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Looking for pics and mounting ideas for a set of old school, state-logo rear mud flaps similar to the ones pictured below. Remember these? My truck currently has a set of vintage, plain black mudflaps that are bolted on way up under the fender, inside the fender well. They hang right behind the rear wheels. The bolts are about 8" above the bottom of the rear quarter panel, right behind the rear tire. My flaps are really long (like 21") so even with that 8" lost up there inside the fender well they still hang almost to the ground. Being so long, they actually do a nice job of keeping crap from getting up in bumper and all points behind the flaps.

But I want some of the old school state mud flaps. Problem is they're only 12" tall (x 18" wide)... a lot shorter than mine. So I'm trying to figure out how to get them mounted down low enough that they won't be all up inside the fender. Obviously, they need to hang below the bottom of the rear quarter so you can read what's on them. Have people hung mudflaps from chains before? Or what did they bolt them to down that low back in the day? I see some people mount them on the rear bumper but my bumper is not level across the bottom so that's not really an option.... plus I don't like them that far away from the rear tire.

Geez, back in the 70s you used to see state-logo mudflaps on all the (farm) pickups but now they're a rarity. How did people mount them? Let's see your old school mud flap pics. Especially ones with state logos! Doesn't have to be on a Chevy. Does anyone know what years these were made.... or are they still being produced?

A piece of angle iron all the way across the frame. Seen it done that way and angle iron on the bumpers. If you do it off the frame you can drop it how ever far you want by putting brackets on the angle iron.

I think it was more of a Midwest/Western thing.... at least the ones I've seen.
