AN fittings?

OK guy's, I know I have been making a lot of threads lately And I hope it's ok so far. I love this forum and all the info here. But I new question I have is about AN fittings. Here is some nicly priced ones I have found, http://www.anfittingsdirect.com/inde...99ac891b2107d5 while reading through there info, this company talks a lot about one brand of fitting not matching up with other brands and they also say that their fitting will only work with their stainless "Teflon" hose. Anyone hear this before or used this brand? where else sells fittings at a good price? This company that i posted says that the stainless braided rubber lets out gas fumes? that does not sound right ? or will it. I just wanna buy some stuff that will last 20 more years. I need fittings for my trans cooler, fuel system, and hydroboost. also how do I flare the stock fuel lines to adapt to -4 and-6 AN fittings? I have seen compression fittings but they say max psi at like 30psi and my fuel pump is 90 psi max

I have Russell on mine and have had no troubles. And I know for a fact that I bought some Summit house brand fittings and they worked just fine. I don't know about making stock fuel line working with them, I did not think this was readily possible but would be interested to learn differently if it is. Have you ever messed with AN fittings before? They are a MAJOR PITA trying to get on the braided line. I tried for 3 hours to get one single fitting on and then I bought these things from Summit called Koul Tools and did 13 fittings in 1 hour. Best 75 bucks I have ever spent

Buy the same brand ends and hose. Hoses and ends by different companys are made to different specs which one could be a little bigger or smaller. Could it work?, maybe. Do you want to deal with the head ache when it doesn't? No.

If you're looking to use the same hose for everything including your hydro boost you should use teflon hose due to pressure. Also I've read PS fluid will start to bleed through normal rubber AN hose after a few years.

I used Jegs brand Teflon hose and ends, no problems. Took me less than 5 min per hose end to install with no leaks........yet

Usmcchevy are u saying that the Teflon hoses do not leak the PS fluid through them? And how do you make the AN fitting work with the stock PS pump? Esp the low pressure side with the slip on hose? (not trying to jack the thread so I apologize if it comes off that way). I think we would all like to know how to do that.

So far I have no fluid leaking or seeping through the hoses or connections. I only used teflon hose for the pressure hoses, return got normal 3/8" rubber hose.

When researching what hose I should use, I ran into posts all over the internet saying that after time PS fluid will begin to seep though normal AN hose. Most normal AN hose is only rated around 800-1000psi. When power steering especially with a hydroboost pump can reach 1200-1500psi. Plus I found the teflon hose to be a little less expensive. Only draw backs I can find are you can't just slip it over something and clamp it and it requires a larger bend radius.

The adapters came from jegs. I used a AN-6 to 16mmx1.5 at the hydroboost unit and a AN-6 to 11/16 inverted flare at the PS box.

Just for reference if you need adapters:
PS press port is 16x1.5mm
HB press in is 18x1.5mm
HB press out is 16x1.5mm

79-
PS box press in is 11/16" Inverted flare
PS box return is 5/8" IF

80+
PS box press in is 18x1.5mm
return is 16x1.5mm

Hydraulic hose fittings or even the hose itself can be used for higher pressure situations as they are the same 37 degree flare just like the AN fittings . I live in a small town and AN fittings are 35 miles away so when i put my fuel line on i was short one fitting so i just went to my local tractor supply store and bought hydraulic fitting .They are not the fancy colours like the other but they are a 1/3 on the cost

^^ I think what your referring to are "JIC" flared fittings. They have the same flare. I used similar fittings in a few places on my build. I ran into a couple of places where either they didn't make a fitting in the right size, or the right conversion (flare etc).
They can be really nice when you need a hose swaged on for extra high pressure. Plus like you said, they don't cost NEARLY as much as an. They are NOT usually aluminum tho.

The JIC (Joint Industry Council) is an industrial flare fitting spec that matches the AN (Mil spec.) except the tolerances are not a tight. But I doubt that the AN fittings we use are really mil spec anyway. I think they interchange fine.

No reason to "double up" the fittings, Besides to O-ring can leak after awhile.

Man, I wish I had seen this prior to my build. I used compression fittings on the hard line and I don't like it too much. No leaks though.

Ok that takes care of some of the fittings I need. Now I need an adapter for the coolant temp sensor. I have a temp sensor from a 91 Suburban that has a nicer plug then the older one that has the wire just clip on. where can I find an adapter for that?

I got my sending unit from Rock auto which I would recommend to you because its cheaper. I bought Russell brand push locks for that 3/8 on pressure side and 5/16 on return side but they would not work on my sending unit, like they would push on but not lock? I called summit and they told me to just put my -6 braided line on there without a fitting and get a hose clamp for fuel injection. I've had my truck running for over an hour and so far so good.

With the corvette fuel filter, do I buy Three 3/8 push locks? or is one of the ends a 5/16s ?
I have been searching and cant find a solid answer or I have been looking so long I have confused myself :shrug:

Just for info we sell just about every fitting from most major brands. Made in usa to. Of course we also sell the cheaper chinese made ones for budget minded people. We also sell industrial quality fittings which most auto businesses do not.
