New truck 1968 C20 CST with a Pullman Camper

I just picke up this truck yesterday. I really didnt know much about it before going to look at it. I just needed a cheap driver truck. Well after i got there i was really surprised. Here it is.




























Its a 68 C20 with 327 an th400, posi rear, big old 17" wheels, pb, ps, A/C, oil,temp,amp gauges, 3 gas tanks, Its got a crazy big generator! The camper is all original, with the seat, fridge, lighting, an rack. Other then the radio, sh*ty paint job, carb/air cleaner its all original. I just dont know what to do with it. LOL As cool as the camper is, i only need a truck. It is growing on me though.

Whats the throttle knob for?

Hand throttle was used for fast idle or poor man's cruise control.

Had one stick on a Landcruiser I had once coming into a parking lot. That was interesting.

Looks like a school bus or big truck alternator. Neat truck. The hand throttle screws out to keep the RPM's up. I had to push on the accelerator pedal a little while I screwed mine out. It made it work easier.

The truck is gonna need some work. But its ll gonna get done while im driving it. So i was able to drive the truck home yesterday, but it ran like crap! I worked on it until after dark (in the driveway) and i got it running good. Had to do a temp carb swap until i rebuilt the 600 holley that came with it. Then the rest was basic tune up, and swapped the distributor (the advance springs were junk). When i was first was looking at the truck and just about to take it for a test drive the rear brake line blew. It made it home though. So im gonna check all the lines and replace any rusty ones. Rear shocks are junk, so i ordered a new set. I put a belt on the A/C compressor and it blows just alittle cold. So i might tr to recharge it with a kit from the autoparts store. The interior lights do not work, but all the outside lights work. It needs exhaust! And i just found one manifold is cracked. Im on the fence between headers, and just replacing the broken manifold.

I was trying to figure out how to get the fridge to work. Took me about 5 min to realize its a ice Box! LOL Then i remembered i got some paper work with it.

That's pretty neat. Looks like somebody pretty much left it the way it was bought. Hard to find vehicles like that. Sounds like it won't take much to make it fairly dependable - keep us posted on your progress.

That's cool! Does the sliding awning still slide? My grandfather had one of those campers, he made some screen sides that attached to the the awning and made a screened room when it was slid back. Neat old camper and truck!

Thanks guys. Ill start a build thread for it. Im not gonna do much though. Its will be a driver for me right now beause my Burban is still down, and i sold my 64 F-85, and my 65 is still 8 months from being done. LOL Ill work on it as i drive it. Ill try to keep it as original as i can.

I have not tried the slider yet, but i will today. Im Xing my fingers!

Same here. It is cool. But im still on the fence between leaving it on or taking it off. Its a big brick on the back and im sure its not helping gas milage.

I really like that rig. The manual throttle was most likely used to help get a charge back into the battery sooner after using camper lighting or any other 12v appliances.

The "real" reason for the hand throttle is as Tim says, to increase the RPM's for the generator. Farm trucks would have them for the PTO or another engine/PTO driven accessory. Some people may have used them as a cruise control of sorts, but that was not what it was designed for.

Thats cool about the hand throttle. Ill keep it hooked up for now. Im removing the cruise control that is on it. Im guessing that was aftermarket?

I love it, I'd give my left nut for a camper like that, very very cool. I think you might need a new gas bottle though (if you don't want to dissapear in a fireball first time you light it up!)
