Re: Do Your Kids Ride?
My 3 year old loves to ride in daddies truck. She even egged me on a couple weeks ago to squeal the tires.

Re: Do Your Kids Ride?
Yup, she does.. This was before I tore it all apart. I took both kids and my wife for a ride the other night around the block.. Had the top off. The kids were giggling and laughing like a carnival ride. My son kept saying make it do a burn out, Daddy!! |

Re: Do Your Kids Ride?
took my 2 year old son for a ride in the 69 just the other day. I think the most dangerous part of the ride was 105 degrees with no A/C. He was a little fussy by the time we got home. We had him on the passenger side and my wife sat in the middle. I figured he'd think trying to kick the shifter out of 4th would be real fun.

The first pic is my son's first trip in the truck 2 years ago. The second pic was Saturday night!

BMRDOC, the only thing you need to remember about car seats, is the two different types. There's belted or "harnessed" car seats and booster seats. Booster seats are intended ONLY as a "booster" to raise the child up enough to keep the shoulder belt of a 3-point from wrapping around their neck. It keeps it around their shoulder where it should be. As for boosters, I've yet to get an answer from anyone if they HAVE to be used if all you have is lap belts. The belted seats are meant to be snugged down tight with the vehicles belt system or and anchor system that all newer cars are equipped with. Then they have their own harness sytem built in. At 3 yrs old, this is what your daughter should be in anyway. To answer your original question, though. Yes, your child will be safe riding in your truck, as long as the truck is safe(suspension, steering, brakes, and wheels secured) to drive. I would be hesitant to take my child with me on a preliminary "shake down" drive. Both my 5yr old and 8 yr old sons ride in my truck all the time. I never let them ride with me on test drives after I've made any changes or modifications to anything like brakes or suspension, though. Here's a pic taken by see ten at the rod run in Pigeon Forge while we had Bonni the chicken.

Re: Do Your Kids Ride?
Yep, that's mom! That's right. I made her get in the back!!
Actually, she wanted to ride back there. She had actually just been released from the hospital that morning after having a hysterectomy. I told her that we didn't have to go to the rod run, but she insisted and was willing to go. Yup, my wife is TOUGH!!

Re: Do Your Kids Ride?
I almost have my wife convienced to let my son (he will be 4 in September, and he is not a big kid, only about 31 lbs) ride with me, but I have been working on her since I got it back together. Earlier this year we were coming home from being out of town, and she mentioned that we should go switch vehicles and take the truck to get some dinner. Then my son decided he had a different idea, and fell sound asleep on the way home. Guess he was too wore out from our busy day at the doctor to go out for a little hotroddin. Its a bit too warm right now for him, as there is no AC and these 105 to 110 temps make for a rough ride. I think her concern was she saw me cut it in half, and them put it back together. For some reason she is not worried about me driving it? Maybe that should concern me more...... haha
That all beign said, my son LOVES my old truck. He tells me all the time he is gons be a hotrod builder when he grows up, and build trucks like his daddy. We do get the truck out from time to time and go for a cruise around the neighborhood, and of corse any car show we go to he has to cruise the showgrounds with me. I have always felt that if he cant enjoy it, Im not gonna have it. In fact the paint would not be all nice and shiny had it not been on the truck when I got it, because I want it to be where if he bumps it I wont worry about it. Youshould see the looks on some of the parents that bring their kids to a show, and constantly tell them to not touch anything...and then I ask them if they want to sit in it. I figure if we dont pass this hobby on to the younger generation, it will just die. seeing the smile on my son or any other childs face when they sit in "the hotrod truck" makes it all worth it. He was almost 2 in this pic: And this was last year at the ///RA Allstar Event: |

Re: Do Your Kids Ride?
My kids LOVED riding in my 71 4x4 blazer. I feel the kids are safer in our trucks compared to many of the compact cars today.

Re: Do Your Kids Ride?
I posted the same question a little over a year ago and got some good comments and good memories and one crappy one.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=396732 I wish I had the 3 point harnesses so I could put the child seats in there but 3 won't fit and all 3 love to go. They call it my dirty truck since it's primered down and not painted but they say they love how it sounds like a monster truck. I can never go anywhere without them throwing a fit if they don't get to go. Some of my best memories are riding with my dad on a cooler in between the bucket seats of a plymouth arrow helping shift gears.
