Best S10 Frame for AD Swap ???

Going to get this thing together on it's current frame, but have seen a couple S10's around for dirt that I could grab for donor frame for the near future to swap to

I see a few variations used and just wondering what is the 'best' or good thing to start from

(The current frame is the 51 frame with a 69 camaro front sub, but if I'm gonna bag, which I know I'll want to eventually, I think the S10 frames look much friendlier, and I like the wide availability of parts)

if its a 51 short box, a longbed single cab s10 is the way to go. The wheel base of the 51 is 116 and the s10 is 117.5

I used a short wheelbase frame because it was basically free and I'm purposely building an extremely low dollar truck. But, I had to cut the frame in half and add a few inches to get the correct length. I measured 867 times and welded once. LOL. I used sections of the original 50 frame to extend the S-10 frame, think organ donation. LOL

I used a reg cab long box S-10 under my Suburban and it fit perfectly. All I really had to do was cut about 6 inches of the front and the rear of the s10 frame because it was too long other wise the wheel base was just right.

The standard way to go is a regular cab longbed frame because it is the correct length for an AD truck with a short box.

Actually anything that you would use to bag and S-10 frame would work with the Camaro stub as they are pretty close to the same. That is if the stub was installed correctly and the installer did a good job. You can easily C notch the rear of the stock frame and run one of several options on rear suspension.

I think the criteria here is how well did the builder put the stub on the stock frame?

I don't see a problem with your stock frame if it was done dorrectly. Like mr48chevy said it is very close to an s10 and can use the same parts, all you would have to do it put a notch out back and a weld on universal 4 link. I chose to do the s10 swap because i wanted to sandblast and paint everything and i already had a bunch of s10 parts here. plus i wanted a specific link kit for the back, made for an s10 frame. an s10 swap isn't easy. Looks like you got the hard part out of the way with the clip swap. You will essentially achieve the same thing without doing any more work.

I got an extended cab S15, the wheel base is off about an inch from my 3/4 ton with the long bed. I was told I can reverse the springs on the S15 to make the wheelbase correct, can anyone confirm this?

I started with an X cab on one and cut 5" out of the middle.

The X cabs are about 123" to start with.

A long bed, regular cab is the way to go. A short bed can be done but it is best to move the mounts back for the rear springs. There is a post on the HAMB how to do it by Kustombuilder.
