Re: Horrible Market For the 67-72 Chevy C10?!
give u an idea of market and craigslist... I paid very little for this truck. I added the wheels but other than that its what is in my signature... dude had it on craigslist for sometime and I went and gave him the cash offer, I was the only one to not offer him a trade or partial trade and cash..... was on craigslist so long I picked it up for $1600 cash.... like said it is a buyers market.. dude had $6500 in reciepts for motor and tranny build alone... plus I got tons of parts...even a $900 dollar new summit vintage ac unit and all

People call/Email you and offer $1000.00 LESS than your asking price. I usually tell them,...."Hey, you haven't even looked/smelled/Taste/Drove this Vehicle and your offering $1000.00 LESS than what I'm asking"??!! That's a clear indication, they don't give a **** about the Vehicle or taking it to the "Next Level" (if its a project. I've got a friend locally here, and I put a Craig's List ad up for him on his 66 Chevy C-10 Long bed. Its a Rust Free, A/C Cab, 350, Turbo 400 and a straight body. He asking $5K OBO. Maybe 5 years ago, I'd say he'd get CLOSE to that. I think he'll be lucky to get $3K for it. But then again, its what the "Market Will Bear", Sup[ply and Demand, but there are ALWAYS the "Craig's List Flakes"!

It may be that people are hesitant to pick up a project, but they will pay to pick up a completed vehicle. (to those selling vehicles that are "done")

Re: Horrible Market For the 67-72 Chevy C10?!
Television isnt helping either, everyone is watching barrett jackson or meekums auctions and think that the rust dumpster that they have out side is worth something because they just saw it sell on the block. Alot of them dont have a clue what it cost to do a proper frame off and think their base mode LWB with no options 6cyl with a 3OTT is worth 10K they way it sets. It had been setting five years under a tree also so you get free syrup thats all over the truck as a bargain right?
I have drove so many miles and lost so much gas looking at hyped up junk that its not funny anymore. I think I will just fix mine and be done with it. I love the people who ask you to deliver your stuff to them even when you put it bold letters that you wont deliver.... Smitty

Man, aint that the truth. before we bought our latest truck there is no telling how much money we wasted on gas driving to look at someones "great condition" truck. truth in the description is worth a lot around here.

Just like the person painting my truck told me, do not think about how much you have in to it because you will never get it all back, just enjoy it while you have it.

Re: Horrible Market For the 67-72 Chevy C10?!
I saw an ad for a restored Chevelle for 50K, and he had 50K in receipts. If I'm paying 50K it better have 100K in receipts.
Thats my take on the cost to build and the true value, two different things.

Either the owner of that truck wasn't so bright, or the op isn't telling the whole truth.
Then again, the op is from ca - the most broke(n) state in the country.

So many people say..."Well I've got XXX amount into it". Most of the time, that's true and I don't argue the point. But if someone has Bought Parts/Paint ect to design the vehicle to THEIR Tastes/Standards, well....that isn't necessarily what I like. So I factor into, what its gonna cost ME to refurbish it to what I want it to be for ME. Then I deduct that price from their asking price. If it was truly EVERYTHING I wanted in that Vehicle and matched my Taste EXACTLY, I STILL wouldn't give them their asking price, because (for most people) the Economy is driving that price. I had $12K into my 67 C-10, with receipts for everything. After 6 Months of dropping the price, someone bought it for $8300.00. I lost about $5K on it, but I knew going into it, I was never going to get out, what I had put into it. What pisses m,e off, are the people that e-mail/Phone, and haven't even SEEN the vehicle, and low ball you. My Wife and I (in 1997), Drove from Sonoma CA, (after my Wife got off work at Midnight), and drove 5 Hours to Reno to look at a 67 Camaro. Been talking with this guy for Weeks. Got there around 7AM, spent 30 minutes and drove away, without buying it. It was a P.O.S. We drove BACK to Sonoma (another 5 Hours), Had lunch and then drove 6 Hours Round-Trip to San Jose. My Wife bought a 78 Anniversary Corvette for $5K. We got back home at 11pm that night, and were out washing/Detailing it. Finally hit the sack at 1am. The Road Trip is Half the Fun!!!!!!!!!! ![]()

Re: Horrible Market For the 67-72 Chevy C10?!
Every market is down these days. If your truck isn't made of gold or crude you'd be lucky to move it. I can't argue with people saving money and paying down debt but it doesn't help you at all when you are trying to sell something. When things aren't looking so bleak people are gonna start looking at their savings accts and credit card balances and again go crazy. My advice is to hibernate. Look for deals and sock em away for better days. Something that you got a good deal on right now is better than holding onto a dollar. With our debt downgrade I don't see things getting better soon. Hopefully it will wake up Capital Hill and they will get things moving again. A 67-72 is always gonna be worth something, it just ain't worth a lot right now. BTW, anyone who bought a five figure C10 ain't worried about money.

Re: Horrible Market For the 67-72 Chevy C10?!
I've noticed lately (in my opinion) it seems trucks are the only thing that are moving.
I did just sell my 32 Ford in about two months but while it was for sale I saw several trucks I was interested in sell, yet most the street rods etc were not moving. I guess I'll find out soon from the buyers side since I'm on the prowl again. |

Re: Horrible Market For the 67-72 Chevy C10?!
the market is bad BUT one thing to remember is that the market CHANGED ! which is probably hurting the sale of projects more than anything , people that have money to buy a classic car or truck dont have to buy a project right now THEY CAN BUY ONE FINISHED ! to sell a project right now you just about have to give it away ,, as for local I have road THE WHEELS OFF MY 67 this year and have had more people try to buy it than ever ? if I had a project for sale I would finish it THEN SELL IT !

With a CL ad, you might run into just one in zillions of folks looking for a project. If your ad is read or even found by those few is dependent on your marketing. Without a good title and indications of photos, no one will click the link. What would you click on? 19.. Chevy truck, needs some reassembly Old truck, have most parts...broke-buy me cheap! Great chance to build your dream truck! LOOK! Make sure you have pics, lists of parts, etc...that helps a lot. Include the work you have done, if titled, how stock it is, etc Be brutally honest...the lookie-loos will go away and leave the folks seriously looking for a new project. There really is a market for projects. Hobbiests are always looking! Just cruising this board should prove that. Depending on how far along the truck is; if it's a roller, hit the swap meets (on a trailer) and other venues with a list of what's been done, what it comes with, etc. If it's a frame-off totally dismantled, list the same things at a place like this site. Again---marketing to right crowd and PICS sell. In my experience, there's a lot of folks out there looking for half completed projects because it's a good way of getting the parts purchasing and dismantling out of the way and getting on with the fun stuff...tweeking and assembly. You also might consider parting the whole works. That's my silly 200 cents ![]() Last edited by ETsC10; 08-13-2011 at 10:42 PM. |

Re: Horrible Market For the 67-72 Chevy C10?!
I feel that the market is down for projects as a whole. The people buying projects tend to have less money to spend hence the hunt for less expensive vehicles that they can spread their time and money out over long periods of time. The market for high dollar vehicles has not been hurt near as much because the people that had money a few years ago still have money and have not been as hurt by the economy. Read up on auction results and you will see what I mean. The high end market is thriving while the project market has died for anything that is not really rare.
