street coupe ?

Hi, over the winter I bought a 79 stepper that is supposed to be a street coupe, there is no build sheet in the glove box, the truck has been repainted, but the stripe and two tone is still visible behind the cab. Is it possible to decode the VIN to see if its a legit SC????

Re: street coupe ?

Good chance it is with the remainder of the stripe there

Should be a sierra grande model with carpet

Should have body colored bumpers but looks as thought front end has been changed.

Often a friendly GM dealer can look up the options on a parts microfiche(I can do that for any Canadian truck)

Street Coupes were not rare back in 79 but very few have survived intact.
(the top picture is my original paint/stripes 79...if you do yours back to original that would be the colors)

I see you are in Canada ....send me your vin..(z77@shaw.ca) and I can pull your option list.

Or even better contact George Zapora at GM vintage and he can do a full info sheet including the original selling dealer.

Cars might cost more in Canada but GM has the info on all Canadian cars..

Which is why you see 69 copos and z28s advertised with "Canadian documentation"

Re: street coupe ?

The Street Coupe bumper is a body color version of the regular bumper that was available with the impact strips.

The chrome version with impact strips was popular on suburbans

You can take the chrome one and sandblast and paint it

The bumper bar with the square holes for the impact strips is not available in repro so you have to look for used.

New and used impact strips turn up on ebay ...

The stripes etc can be reproduced by any good computer graphics shop.

Re: street coupe ?

My 77 short bed was ordered with the chrome bumpers front and rear with the impact strips. I intend on changing them to regular chrome sport bumpers so I think I will keep these just in case I ever buy a Sport or Street Coupe.
