2wd Cummins swaps?

Who's done em?

I might do a 94 12valve bolted up to my T400.

Links would be awesome.

Thanks again (:

Thanks 72.

That helps out a lil bit, what do you plan on using for accessories though?

Anyone else have anything to show for?

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

My build thread, don't count on the 400 holding that power... Even the bt4 used a uped 400.. The 475. Also the th400 adaptor is notorious for not holding power. Its a wave design that folds like a pretzel. Pluss overdrive and lockup would walk all over a 3spd..
Take a look at my build thread, ask questions if ya got any I'll do my best to answer em.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

You would be better off using a A518 out of a 91-93 dodge d250. Its not lock up but its an overdrive tranny and is behind my turned up 92 cummins and has been a good tranny for what it is.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

I planned on beefing up the 400 pretty good.

I've heard from a few people that if you build em right and treat em right they're fine.

The truck I'm lookin at is a 94 4wd with the auto and I think the tranny is shot.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

Power Steering, AC, Alt

All that good stuff.

I just got done furnishing a school over the past 3 days. I don't think it's good if you can't stand without swaying slightly, I think that's a sign of muscle failure and/or dehydration. But definitely made some money to purchase the Cummins.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

The CTD will be a powerhouse for sure! I just sold my 06 Ram CTD (572/1077-hp/tq)to get my dream truck(1971 chevy). I put very little money in the CTD and it made big reliable power.Good luck on your build. Will be nice to see these different trucks. Looking forward to watching these builds.
I have seen a 69 chevy K20 running around my neck of the woods with a cummins in it.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with the 47RH since I learned some more about it.

I'll just need to find a 2wd one, since the pickup is 4wd, got some more hours today so hopefully I'll get cut a check by the end of the week.

Pretty excited, wanna blow some smoke!

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

Not syre about bolt up. But, the Dodge 48r trans is better than 47. Both came on the 5.9 ctd. The 47 was the earlier model and wouldn't stand the power ofabuilt 5.9 ctd.

I heard the 47 is actually pretty stout with a valve body and good rebuild kit so I'm gonna give that a try, I don't feel like puttin an ole paddle in there so I can still let a pretty girl or two drive it here and there (;

I really appreciate. Unfortunately the truck was sold...

And by the way 6772, your '68 50th is soooooooo awesome! It has the only option I wish my 50th had, LONGHORN.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

I loooked for about 2 years before I found one for my truck. I got mine out of a '91 dodge with a bad tranny. Keep your eye open, they tend to show up when your not looking.
6772king do you have any pictures of how that intercooler ended up working in the truck? I was wanting to make a '06 intercooler fit but it was way to tall.

The 48 requires a computer to operate it and is more expensive to start off with. With the right parts the 47rh will be bullet proof. That is the trans I'd use without a doubt.

Think I found me a earlier 98 12valve with 4wd 47rh.

Pretty excited, my buddy is gonna talk to him tomorrow since it's a friend of his.

Then again, I spoke before it all happened, so I'm knockin on wood now.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

Just an fyi, 47rh's were only built in 1994 and 1995. No other year. The easiest way to tell them apart is by the connector coming from the valve body out of the transmission case. It is straght behind the throttle pressure valve. A rh will have a 3 pin connector, a re will be 7 or 8 pin.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

For an RH, no. The center has 12v ignition to it, and the outers need a ground signal to activate lock up and over drive. You can make a RE work in this manner but I don't recall the pin locations right now.

Re: 2wd Cummins swaps?

Hey Ryan,

What all does it take to make a 47 survive?

I hear a good converter and valve body and you're pretty much good to go if you aren't racing it.
