Windshield leaking

My windshield is leaking, and I need a new weatherstrip piece around it. Which places has anybody used to buy the part, and did they have any fitting problems with it? My truck is a 72 C-10, and has the metal trim in the weatherstripping. TIA,
-Jay

The vendors on the board all sell quality W/S gaskets...I've purchased "stuff" from Athey's, Tim Christian, GMC Paul and Wes and always had good products and service. Yours is the "deluxe" model with the stainless steel insert trim. Ensure that after you place the "new" W/s gasket on the glass you install the SS trim on BEFORE you try and install it into the W/S frame...it is a full-scale pain-in-the-butt and I always wind up with 5-6 install "attempts" before I finally get the whole thing correctly installed....you might even consider having it installed by a mobile glass shop as they often pay for the W/S cracked during the installation..(been there, done that, and even got a few T-shirts to boot!!!). Best to check the condition of the W/S frame once the W/S is removed to ensure no rust is present....and is the REAL CULPRIT of your "leaking windshield". Good Luck..7T1BURB

Are you sure it's the windshield??

I don't want to discount your knowledge about your own truck. I thought my windshield was leaking, too. However, it was the holes in the plenums right above the kick panel vents, and under the wiper linkages.

When you replace your windshield rubbers, you may want to consider having a glass shop do it for you, unless you're accomplished. Even then, they may not want to guarantee that the windshield won't break when they take it out.

Whatever you do, DON'T use any RTV-type sealer/adhesive, that isn't specifically labeled for automotive use. Some RTV's (like Silastic) will cause severe corrosion and rusting, when the compound remains in contact with metal. Just be sure you use the automotive versions.

i'd also suggest getting a glass shop do the install on the windsheild,in fact i'd say if your going to do it go for a new windsheild if your original one has any pitting at all they're not that expensive!!! Ijust put in a new rear slider and gasket that i got from WES and it fit great just wish i'd had somebody to help me

It's definitely the windshield leaking, it's coming from between the glass and the weatherstrip. I was planning on having a local shop do the installation, they are actually the ones that suggested I order one from an online distributor. I guess I'll just go with WES or GMCPauls, and bring it in once I get it.
