So its leaking out of the top end of it, would that be the upper input shaft that needs replaced?

If it is leaking where the steering shaft goes into it, that is called the "sector shaft seal"

if your have the factory gear box don't let go of it the auto parts store will sell you a less turning steering gear box have your rebuilt lot cheaper

How much does it cost to get them rebuild? Are they very difficult to do it yourself?

Wow, that question killed the discussion, didn't it.

I too would be interested in how to rebuild. I had been warned about the replacement stuff having a different ratio, so i would just as soon rebuild mine, but i'm a power steering gear box rookie, at best.

The shaft that the pitman arm hooks to is called the sector shaft. The shaft that the steeing column hooks to is called the worm shaft. The seals are not hard to replace but a complete o-haul could be difficult.

If you google "Saginaw Box Rebuild - How To" there's an excellent how to you'll find on pirate 4x4

Also, look up "Saginaw Steering Box Rebuild - Smooth Steering" by four wheeler magazine for another good write-up. You should be able to get an idea whether it's something you want to tackle or not.

Has anyone had experience with a reman steering gear from LMC? The catalog shows them selling for $230+core.
