ok so saturday night about midnight my buddy calls me an hes stuck. in his 2000 z71 trying to get to someone else is stuck. so i get a phone call from him asking to come pull him out. sure no prob ill be there in a bit so i get there. put it in 4wd ive got a 2003 z71 and ive used the 4wd before testing it out. so i think im in 4hi im getting the chain hooked up usin the tow hook on the front. i go in reverse and he wont budge so i pull forward hit reverse again chain brakes. so we start all over next time chain an tow hook breaks. im not budgin him at all and my 4wd isnt working at all no front tire spinning. no error message saying service 4wd the 4hi lite is on. i finily get him out how i dont know heh. so i take it out of 4hi drive to a mudhole with water an soup in it. back down in it put it back in 4hi and it crawls right out no problem.

now before i got to where his truck was at i did have it in 4hi before i got in the spot he was stuck.

what could be the issue here with this not wanting to work at that time. the 2 other z71s ive had i have never had an issue one beein a 01 with the touch button. and one beein a 97 with a manual transfer case with a vortec 350 shoulda never got rid of it.

ive got a 2003 z71 also...never have this problem but this i do know is that the 4lo is a no syncronous gear and you have to have it completely stopped, foot on brake and in nuetral. as far as 4 hi goes, you should be able to hit 4hi doing 55+ mph and it will engage and switch back to 2hi with no problems.. i also have auto4wd so....but it should be the same. i forget the steps but you can also completely disengage both the transmission and transfer case for tow behind with it in park so you dont kill the battery. pretty cool function...thats what the little light between 2hi and 4hi is...

i knew about the 4 low and i never put one into 4hit no higher than 10mph.

i fargot the steps also but ive done it before.

i wish i could figure out my issue im kinda dissapointed i also found out the rear isnt positrack. like the last two z71s ive owend heh i miss my 97 more an more with that vortec 350

next time before you pull up to something put it into 4hi then drive up...sounds like it didn't engage I've had this happen a few times in a few dif trucks...and when you go from 4hi or 4low back up at least 10 feet to make sure it disengages.. hope this helps

i had it in 4hi before hooked the chain up. i stated in the first post that i think in im 4hi

im not sure whats going on here but it didnt engage thats for sure. i also tried to engage it again today on some gravel. and didnt work could it be the transfer case motor?

is it in neutral when you put it in 4hi?

on the touch button system i didnt think you had to have it in neutral. not what the owner manual says. and my 01 was touch button also and anytime i put it in never was in netural. i usuly stop or just let it move slowly before pushin the button. it did work later that night. but as i also said today it didnt work

hell ever since i got this 03 ive had hell with something i guess we all get a bad one now and then.
to be honest i should have never got the damn thing should have been mroe careful

i know push button is on the fly but I still stop put it in neutral then put it in 4x4...that way it is sure to engage..
