sounds about right..maybe a little optimistic...but probably the right curve. 200cc's work perfect with even a mild 383...they make enuff low end torque to make up for the little that might be loss do to the larger intake runners

I wonder what the idle quality and vacuum would be like? You think G.M. Fast Burn heads would be a better choice?

it will sound almost stock with that cam...trick flow twisted wedge...afr..pro1s..protoplines...anyone would be a good choice in an aluminum head

I'm more interested in having a lot of low end torque, could I retain those numbers with a set of iron heads or would I have to lower the compression to 9.0:1 and lose some power? Thanks.

as long as you keep the proper quench of between .035-.045 and use an iron head with an effiecient chamber design 9.5-1 is not out of the question...maybe in the summer.. jump up to 89 octain

my guess is that the tork# are a little optimistic.....hp probably about right with the 200 cc runners. the cam is pretty mild, & should idle darn near smooth in a 383. At 9.5 to 1 on pump fuel, I think I would be tempted to go a little bigger on the cam.......it wont hurt the bottom end on the 383 too much to be in the 220-224 dur range @ .050 on the intake side, & about 230 on the exhaust side. A lot depends on gearing tho.... My 383 could use a little more cam (Comp XE 268, .477/.480, 224/230 @ .050). The edelbrock heads are 170 cc runners, & the thing is torkey as he!!........but i have a lot of gears crazyL

sounds a lot like my combo, cept for the heads. i have a hard time beleiveing magazine power/torque numbers, especially if they're off that magic dyno out in california. with that cam the engine would idle smooth, my 383 is running 222/230 @050 and it purrs like a kitten; gobs and gobs of low end torque, details of the engine are below

So if my goal is maximum low end torque with a smooth idle, would I be better off with a little bigger cam and heads in the 180cc-190cc range or stay with the 200cc? I'm running 3.73 gears in the rear and plan on swapping in a 700R4 when I replace my engine. Thanks.
