Looking for shift pointer
Just upgraded to Blue so now I can ask.
I'm wanting a shift pointer for a 68. Anyone ?

I'm finding out , there are three different shapes of pointers
or also called shift indicators. This is the one from my project,note the attachment hole is broken.

Hello,
Hope your Saturday is well. I tore up the Garage and found what I could. This style of pointer 67-70 is old and brittle, so the one I am showing first is one I repaired. I install a layer of ITV on the sides of this style to help it stay attached when installed on my trucks. It is something I like to do to strengthin it. I pulled it off the column and took some pictures. It is a dark gray. Here are some pics of it on and off the column.

Here is a second set of pics with the other style pointer from 71-72. I put the 67-70 pointer down with them for the pics. These style pointers are in great shape and I have the wire hook up for one of them.

I have one more, but it is broken at the screw end like yours and I haven't repaired it yet out of my 68. I had seen the other gentleman has a really nice one to offer, so that one sounds like the best bet. Again this style from 67-70are old and fragile. If you decide you may be interested in mine I am willing to trade for your old one, because I will fix it and reuse it. I am an original parts type guy. One more thing, I am not trying to kill anyones deal, but I found these brand new in the LMC catalog too and I am sure that some of the board vendors will have some of this style. The 71-72 has been reproduced now for a while and now finally it looks like this style 67-70 is getting redone also. Either way, good luck on your search. I searched ten yaers before I even found a good used one.

The other offer is for the curved type. Is that for a tilt column ? Anyway I want to keep mine original also. I tried using JB Weld but it wouldn't hold. What is the stuff you used to repair yours? What is ITV ? Maybe I can fix mine. The two little tab at front are broken off also.

Because these are old and brittle I used liquid nails to reform the end where the screw hole is. I put some of the glue material on the sides to attach itself to the pointer, so when it dries it makes a strong bond. After it was dry I used my Dremel tool to shape it like the pointer is supposed to look then I drilled a screw hole for it and painted it. While I was installing the screw I went real slow with a regular Phillips screw driver and just tightened it enough to snug it when it was flush with the pointer body. You can very much repair the one you have. The pointer can be painted to match as well. ITV, means the silicon stuff we use on different applications for our drive trains or household goods that need it. I used a high heat gray ITV compound like you would use for your valve covers to create a hardening rubber base that would be easy to remove when needed. I applied it to the two little teeth area and I put it down the side and flat areas underneath the pointer before installing it and the screw, so it would keep the pointer bonded to the column. It works out really well and takes the abuse of shifting the column time and time again. The other style black pointer was an alternative replacement in case I couldn’t bring the original one back to life. I had seen it on other non tilt columns and a board member had turned me onto it as an alternative. I am like you and enjoy originality. You sound like you will really enjoy fixing the original, I know I did. Keep me posted, I would like to see the results? OH YEA, one more alternative material to use is the liquid steel that comes in a clear tube. You can see it and it is dark gray and black and is like silly putty or cookie doe. You pull out the contents and cut the amount you want off and then commence in finger mixing it together and when you satisfied it is mixed and the chemical bond has stated then work it onto the pointer and it will harden for you and then you Dremel it into shape and drill the screw hole.
