mounting sunvisor on my Brb

Hi guys,

I bought a second hand sunvisor for my '86 Burb. No instructions nor mounting material.

I need some pics and advise on how to mount this baby?

maybe some close up pics of how it is mounted with you guys?

any help is welcome.

thanks!

Re: mounting sunvisor on my Brb

Line it up where you want it, mark the holes, drill a pilot hole, run big ass sheet metal screws through it to hold it in place. Be sure to dress the holes with something to give you half a chance to avoid rust and leaks, probably won't help though.

Re: mounting sunvisor on my Brb

My comment on sunvisors: If you do a lot of high-speed highway driving, they'll knock your gas mileage down. In the early 50's Motor Trend road tested an early Olds sedan. Top speed dropped about 5 MPH with the visor on. You can guess what that did to gas mileage. Just something to think about.

Re: mounting sunvisor on my Brb

Here are a few pictures of my LUND. I can try to figure out some measurements from common points if you'd like.

Don't know why people have sore butts about visors... I've had a bunch of people trying to talk me out of one on my Shortbread...

Quote:

Biggest thing to watch for is proper sealing on the screws. If you do it right, you won't have any leaking... The surface rust you see on roof is from a poor paint job, and 15+ years of abuse, and weather. Under the visor is the only spots without rust. I suggest using stainless hardware. Keeps that bleeding from happening around the caps. Granted, if you washed your truck, that probably wouldn't happen. Haha.

Re: mounting sunvisor on my Brb

I would check the rv supply websites for screws and compatible caps. These are usually used for interior of RVs, but since they are plastic I don't see why they won't work on the exterior. I would still seal the heads of the screws with silicone just prior to installation of caps to help secure the caps to the screw heads in the wind.

Re: mounting sunvisor on my Brb

Also check cabinet/woodworking supply stores for many styles of caps and matching screws.

No problem, and sorry to hear. I thought the fit on yours looked quite different, but mine is also over 15 years old. Things could change, I guess.

Anyone looking for one, I'd try contacting LUND about dealers. Either local, or mail order.

Its a matter of personal preference. They are definitively one of those items that are subjective in styling. Even if I did like the looks, I would have a hard time bringing myself to drilling all those holes in my roof.

Re: mounting sunvisor on my Brb

To each his own. Some like trucks lifted, some like them slammed. Some like rollpans, some like visors. I kind of like them, but I'm a long way from drilling into the roof to install one on mine.

As for buying one, has anyone tried to buy a visor from Canuck Industries?

Here's their website: http://www.canuckindustries.com/cana...roducts_id=239

They look good, even sell lighted ones, but I know nothing about this company. It might be worth looking into, since I think Lund has given up on the visors.

Re: mounting sunvisor on my Brb

OK, ordered a new one, also replica, but this one looks a lot better...they told me to glue the sunvisor an maybe just bolt it to the "metal part by the side of the window (whats the name for that? I am dutch)...hahaha..

anybody ever considered glueing? since it will save you from drilling the roof...

they told me to use this glue:

sikaflex
or
bison poly max

Re: mounting sunvisor on my Brb

never tried glueing,
what about fiberglassing it(it might be made of it, mine is)
you would have to remove the paint to the metal ,to"bond" then no?
heck screw it, if it leaks bond it lol
