Re: Project 67

When I find a set of sm engine side mounts I can test fit them to the eng and see what it looks like. At a glance looks like it may have been born to fit there.

Are you talking about some Small Block motor mounts?

I have a set I bought that you can use test fit if you like.

Re: Project 67

The West City Park thing could be rather dull if you wanted to skip that part. I DUNNO as I didn't attend last year. Even if you worked till 5 pm the actual cruise up n down thru the city would be worth it even if you drove the jeep and parked at one end. As a couple of trips back and forth will cause me to park too. Just give me a ring after you get off. The drive thru town should wind down between 7.30 and 9.

67 Project now has a name "Odd Ball" Since it is a bit out of the norm build. Also the 5th truck we have built ..being a odd number. May consider the pool ball number 5. See if that can be worked into the build, never know.
So far. serious considerations on the build. 5 lug complete conversion, front disks, drop spindles, 4.3 V6, 700R4. Short Fleetside bed. Bagged w/ dual compressors.
Paint colors under consideration so far.. White or silver or possibly flat light in color.

I have an ECE front disc 2.5 drop spindles and disc brake setup if you are converting. Just let me know if you think you can use them.

Re: Project 67

Scott sounds like you have all The parts we need for oddball. I think we scored a complete front end today off a 71, the guy said he was going to scrap it, so drop spindles is one of the parts we would need. Why you selling the burb?

Well it's just too much work as far as rust issues are concerned for me to fix it. Would cost me way too much to do it right. But if I don't get my asking price I will keep it and fix it up slowly. So who knows I may end up holding on to it in the end, we'll see.

Re: Project 67

Wow scott, Sammy just stopped by and showed me all the parts, L&R reskinned doors with door rubber and good hinges, and ece 2 1/2" drop spindles with ece disk brake conversion kit and he said there was more parts left that he wanted. He was happier than a kid that just left a candy store! Thanks Scott all we need now is a 5 lug rear end and some tubular control arms and we are set!

Re: Project 67

Not sure but believe my candy store days are in my past. But none the less these new parts will be put to use on "Odd Ball." Firedog was talking about rear disks tonight. I seen on the vendors area those brackets are well over two bills making rear disk conversion a $500 or better upgrade. I need to eat some steel pipe now and squeeze out some of those tubular arms to fit the bag plates. If I'm not careful "Odd Ball" will be out in the sunshine this next spring.

Re: Project 67

That's cool guys!

Glad I could help out on the parts for "Odd Ball".

I think I am close to being finish with all my 'good' parts being sold now. Only have like a handful of misc. items to get rid of then I can clean up my basement.

You guys decide on a color scheme yet?

Re: Project 67

Color is still up in the air, silver seems to come up a lot in the discussion and with the name now set as "oddball" and the 5th truck in our fleet using the #5 billiard ball theme, orange keeps getting thrown in too

Re: Project 67

Silver, white...Was looking in the Chevy P/U red book tonight..and Ivory was a factory color in 67 that sounds interesting. As long as it is a light color and single stage paint easy enough to spray. Anyone seen a truck Ivory? I don't think I ever have. Would like to see one painted that.

Re: Project 67

Done some frame rivet removal. degreased the V6. removed the serp, alt, ac stuff. Pressure washed the works. Removed the valve covers. That job sucks. Painted the covers, serp, block. Tomorrow reinstall the serp and alt. Actually removal isn;t bad it's reinstalling the covers that caused me a few kind words. Yeah, by the way they say don't point 3800 psi water to make skin contact. Good advise to heed. I would advise to not attempt holding small item with your hand either, regardless if it takes flight through the driveway gravel.

Re: Project 67

Great day around my garage.
Received a urgent call from a person I met at Saturday's car show that netted me a 3rd place trophy. Come down to come get these parts shoot me a price before it goes to the scrap yard. Couldn't believe my eyes. Short fleet, 6 cyl, 3 on the tree 71 chevy.
Really deserves to be bured as the rust in every panel was screaming. Bed floor barely attached. Although a complete truck needed more attn than I could ever give her. Did manage to get a wheel to wheel rear axle, rear end assy loaded into my trailer for Odd Ball, pr of wiper blades, glove box lid, gage panel, light switch, wiper switch, locking gas cap with key, orginal jack handle and jack, DS, cig delete plug, door handles and cranks, and the cardboard cover for the inside tank to use as a template for a replacment. Not bad for a $50 bill. This truck's options were the smallest I've seen. Two tone paint and gage cluster. The sun was bright on me today I feel I did great. This will hurry the 5 lug conversion. I was planning on removing the axles and having them redrilled for 5 lug! Easy street baby..

Re: Project 67

The main board i asked about the 67 Ivory 526 paint code. Some pics are posted there. Looks like we have a winner in the paint ideas for odd ball. Even if I have to BC, Top coat. A guy I know sent word to me today..You do the labor, materials I'll supervise a repaint on the GMC................................. Maybe do the 67 first!

Re: Project 67

Done some research on eng mounts. Taped the distance from the rear of the block to top bolt hole on eng mount. Talking slightly more than 14 on SM Block versus 10 on the V-6. Not sure what the old GMC V6 used for mounts....??? Anyone have any insight. Also do not know if the old V-6's were comparable length as a small block or a inline 6. One thought was to just move the towers back 4 inches to maintain a decent distance from the firewall. Provided sitting in the mounts it sits level still. Electric fans behind a 4 core rad in a custom shroud will keep it cool. Guess custom length upper n lower rad houses as these maybe some what of a distance away.
Quick question does the 700R4 require the high hump for clearance? Or will the low stock hump have enough clearance? Spied an older 700R4 yesterday with a 2 year old rebuild that has less than 10,000 miles on it. But it is the older version out of a handicapped chevy van. For the additional weight inside the van electric wheel chair lift, huge electrical drivers handicap seat it was rebuilt with all the extras to be almost builet proof.
As aways I'm open to everyone's ideas and thoughts.

Re: Project 67

Today removed the drivers side drum. What a mess. Gutted all the springs and shoes indicates to have been under water with all the rust. Stashed for a rainy day is a complete set of new cylinders, springs and shoes. Cleaned the drum up it was solid red. Doesn't look to have been turned. One lug stud was broken off and after closer inspection 3 of the other studs are grooved. Guess someone ran wheels on this with loose lug nuts. Also cleaned the housing up applied some primer and rattle canned the tubes and pumpkin. After I get this side done and the other side apart I'll decide if the drums really need turned. They appear to be stock drums as they have the knock outs not like the aftermarket ones I put on the GMC. Sprayed the inside of the drum backing plate and cleaned the rust from the other widgets that are not getting replaced. Weather guy is calling for a another nice day again could get the brakes completed with any luck.

Re: Project 67

This coming week looking into possibly finishing the 5 lug rear and or blast the frame. Once the rear end swap begins I will post a few pics. Goal is to get the frame and cab back on and painted before the weather turns to the worse.
