Question I need some header info / help

I currently have a set of block hugger headers on my 350 in the 57. The problem is they are not sitting correctly on the engine. The collectors are hitting the oil pan on pass. side and the motor mount on the drivers side. Which doesn't allow them to seal without using three sets of gaskets.

What are other using for headers? Brand, type (shorties, mid length, long tube)? I am still using the under cab brake mount with a hydroboost unit attached to it, so the headers still have to allow brake pedal travel.

Any suggestions would be great, because I can't seam to find a set that works.

Thanks,
Wess

Now THAT'S a good question! I don't see anything wrong with your post - but I also can't help answer your quesiton either.

If you've got to get new headers anyway, have you considered any of the re-done ram's horn lookalikes? They should leave plenty of room for pedal travel, etc..

First who made the down tubes the headers should not touch the block at all. I have seen some China made copies that were built wrong. My flanges on block are 3/8 thick and headers don't even come close to block. For the down tubes that go back I bought speedways and tilted them a little at the collector before I welded them up no interference whats so ever.

Wess these are coated Patriot Headers on a 350 chevy and you can get them from summit racing... they clear everything good.. you can get them coated or uncoated for you to paint.
What every header you buy get the one's for angle plugs, because they clear the spark plug boots much better..
Hope any of this helps..

Re: I need some header info / help

Jocko - I have checked those out and they are a bit pricey for wallet.

Rude Dude - I have no idea who made these headers but I agree they should never hit the block. Thats why they leak like crazy!

Parkwood - Beautiful engine!! Have you hooked up the rest of the exhaust? Any interference issues?

I have looked at so many different types and styles that I'm getting dizzy. Its so hard to tell from a catalog picture if they will fit. Any picks will help, this way I can see how they sit in relation to the frame and column.
Thanks,
Wess

Don't let it get you down.... any good header company should make a header that will fit without hitting anything..

Yes the exhaust is complete and here is a few pictues of the set up.. no problems..

Have you considered using stock cast iron manifolds?

Re: I need some header info / help

Parkwood - Thank you for the pictures. They helped out more than you know.

Solidaxle - I hade the cast iron stock ones before and I didn't like the way they restricted the engine.

I was looking at these: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Small-...ders,3818.html. They look like the ones in the picture from parkwood.
Says they help improve mid to upper RPM power.
Thanks guys.
