Bonneville & Drag Strip Push Truck questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys,

Since the guys at my shop are all building Pro Street and Drag vehicles I was thinking of making mine into the shop's Push Truck. All of their trucks and cars have a radiator so it's not like they can't motor back under their own power but I thought it'd be cool to have that shop truck look with a push bar in front. Question is what's the best way to mount the push bar? Anybody have pictures or descriptions of how to mount one? I don't want anything too bulky as this will still be a routine if not daily driver.

Help me out, give me some inspiration here

Fab some brackets using sections of a spare bumper as the base for your 'push-bar'. Then you can simply attach it using the OE front bumper/frame holes for easy on/off w/o changing anything else.

Many old push trucks used simple round tubing on the ends (an oval the width of the frame rails) or a big piece of wood.

I took a few of this truck at the Beech Bend Hot Rod Reunion. I have always wondered the same thing and captured it for my memory. I thought this was a well thought out and had clean finish.

Hey thanks for the replies guys

In the picture above the red truck's push bar appears to run under the bumper? Is that attached to the frame somehow do you think? Maybe they just drilled holes and mounted through the frame like you would do with a reciever hitch on the other end?

Exactly. You can see the pins in the middle pic.

He lives in my area but I'm not sure on the details for the 'push-bar' set-up.
