B5 Challenger Blue - Anyone?

Does anybody have a 71-72 with B5 Blue + white top/sides? Considering this color but would love to see it on our trucks

Re: B5 Challenger Blue - Anyone?

Did a search for B5 paint here in the forum but turned up nothing. I dig that old street rod look of the late 60's early 70's. Looks good with white too.

Re: B5 Challenger Blue - Anyone?

I'm not sure it's the same color. Is the challenger pic above the same color that is on a 69 chevelle?

Re: B5 Challenger Blue - Anyone?

Dodge does seem to have nice looking blues--the guy I got this from just had it redone in the Dodge Dakota / Ram color "Intense Blue Pearl". It's similiar; looks to be a bit darker...

Yes, those formulas are for 1 pint. You would have to multiply by 8 to get a gallon.

**** IMPORTANT ****
The numbers behind the tints/balancer/binder are CUMULATIVE weights in grams, NOT individual weights.

Example Formula:

tint 1 34.0
tint 2 40.5
tint 3 50.0

So, you would start by zeroing your scale with the can on it, then add 34 grams of tint 1, then add tint 2 untill your scale was at 40.5 (which would be 6.5 grams of tint 2), then add tint 3 untill the scale was at 50.0 (which would be 9.5 grams of tint 3). This procedure would most likely be done by the paint shop ... unless you have a buddy with a Dupont mix/tint rack.

Re: B5 Challenger Blue - Anyone?

B5 is "NOT" the same color that's on the Challenger in the pic above, nor is the name of it "Surf Blue"

PQD ,is the paint code for "Surf Blue", and that's what's on the Challenger in the pic

Re: B5 Challenger Blue - Anyone?

PQD is a paint code? I knew the colors looked different to me, compared to the Chevelle SS. "Surf blue" is a Chrysler color?
Think it's got more metallic or is lighter than the Chevelle SS Lemans Blue. I checked out your build thread the other day 69CS - nice work.

It ALMOST looks like the same color of my truck. Mine's a tad darker.

69CS, here's the post for that picture -

Okay, so the first pic up thread with the Super Bee on the hood is a Charger. But the second pic with that dude and corvete is a Challenger. Same colors.

If you would like to make absolute sure go look in the driver side door jamb on the Challenger on the sticker that's on the door itself and it should have the paint code on it.

Rack Man has the color! Close to what I'm looking to see - but no white on the sides, and I'm not sure it's the same Dover White the Chevelle has.

Nah, don't care that much. You can google B5 Challenger then click on the "images" link at the top.
I think the Challenger came w/B5 for one year only - a year or two back, as a tribute to the B5 blue of back when.

Only now I'm aware - surf blue or B5 is not the color I was looking for.

I checked out the link, as far as the color being from the 60's,and 70's I can't say either way. That was way before my time (I'm 31), and as far as that color only being on 1000 Challengers made in 08' , I can't confirm that either.

What I can tell you for sure though is PQD is definately the paint code for "Surf Blue", and from the pic(s) posted above that's what it looks like to me. I can also tell you that sometimes auto. mfg's rename and recode the exact same colors. This very well could be one of those circumstances.

Hmmm, you would think since I'm an auto painter , and I own a Challenger I would have concrete proof, but I don't. This kind of peaks my interest I think I'll look into it tomorrow.

Yes, thank you. I'm not trying to be crass. Here's what wikipedia says if you want to check it out more "A "Spring Special" SRT8 Challenger was also offered in B5 Blue, but due to rolling plant shutdowns, just over 250 Spring Special Challengers were built before the end of the 2009 model year."

Re: B5 Challenger Blue - Anyone?

Actually, that pic above isn't even a Challenger. It's a 2008 Dodge Charger SRT8 Superbee in what is commonly known or referred to as B5 blue. That color was available on SRT8 Chargers for 08' and Challengers of R/T and SRT8 design for 09' through 10'.
