Another box into a trailer question.
Well I'm finally getting rid of all my extra "junk". One project Im not going to dump is my turn a pick up box in to a trailer.
I will be using this trailer as a substitute for my K20 (Im retiring it). Now I don't haul a lot of super heavy stuff. Maybe a load of bark or some plywood, all stuff the K20 handles like a feather. Ill be pulling this trailer with my panel or my honeys Trailblazer. So here is what I think may or may not be a dilemma. Im going to paint it to match my panel and put a canopy on it. I also want to lower it to be about the same height as the panel (total 6 inch drop). I have two choices. I have a leaf spring truck or a coil spring truck. I have helper springs for both styles ... but maybe they wont work with a lowered trailer? Maybe helper bags? Im pretty sure the leaf spring truck is the way to go for a trailer, but I may have to do a flip kit of some sort to get it down a ways. Any way Im open to thoughts on the best way to go. Hopefully I explained it well enough. Only keeping one, the other will be going to the scrappers.

Re: Another box into a trailer question.
I have heard that the coil spring rears dont make good trailers, because they might/could wander ( I dont know), I am making a trailer also and right now am using the coil suspension cause that is what I got.

Re: Another box into a trailer question.
I am going to register mine soon and I have an original Axle under it. I asked the lady at the DMV and she said I was good, but I will go ask again.

Re: Another box into a trailer question.
There are a lot of coil spring trucks and I don't see em bobbing and weaving all over the road. Maybe wheels at four corners makes a difference?

Re: Another box into a trailer question.
If you flip the axle left to right, then move it to the top of the springs you wont even need new spring pads.you will need to plug the vent and drill a new one.

Re: Another box into a trailer question.
I have one of these bed/frame converted trailers with coil springs. I never liked using it because it was a little on the squirelly side......bouncy. I tried new shocks too. Just my experience. It has been sitting for nearly 20 years.

Re: Another box into a trailer question.
I am doing mine with drop springs like my truck, same color and such, I also have a LWB trailer with leaf springs but that is my dog, I work that thing hard.
The SWB trailer will be for show mostly, and storage when I drive the truck to a show or get together.
