New defective fuel sending unit
I bought a new fuel sending unit about two months ago from Classic Parts. I went to finally install it tonight...the outlet for the sending unit doesnt line up with the inlet for the fuel line.
1). Has anyone ever had this problem before and can it be re-aligned without breakin the neck. 2). Hows Classics customer service? My invoice says return policy gives a limit of 30 days, after that its a store credit. I just want a fuel sending unit that works but dont feel like i should pay anymore money for shipping back their defective part and having them ship another one that hopefully works... Heres a pic that shows how the outlet is not perfectly horizontal like my original one. |

Re: New defective fuel sending unit
I had the same problem with one I bought from Summit Racing. Mine also had the wrong size female connection (apparently '69 307 uses the straight six sending unit). I had a heck of a time finding the correct part. I ended up buying a N.O.S. Sending unit from a board member. Sorry if this doesn't help much, but I would recommend finding a new or used original sending unit if you can.

The supply tube is connected to a rubber line under the cab floor so you might be able to move it enough to get it hooked up. If not, use a tubing bender and adjust the sender tube to where it works. If you are worried about breaking it you could also use the tubing bender to bend the supply line so it lines up with the sender. LockDoc

Re: New defective fuel sending unit
It's been a long time and can't remember who I bought it from, but I had the same problem. I couldn't get it to fit right so I actually took the new parts to fix the old one. Seems like it's a crapshoot with parts made overseas these days but it's all we got.
Sadly, it's a learning experience and hopefully someone else can learn from it. Best thing to do is to immediately check the part and return it asap if it's defective. |
