Re: th400 rebuild question
Install the drive gear so the lugs are flush with pump body.

Re: th400 rebuild question
just asking the question. I had my trans rebuilt a couple months ago, didn't get it in until last week. while putting setting it in, i couldn't get the converter back far enough. took it to a guy.
he said he pulled it back apart and found the gears were put in backwards, reassembled it and now it works fine. I was wondering if what he told me could be and/or is true. the truck drives well now, except for needing a carb tune.

Re: th400 rebuild question
The inside gear can be put on backwards yes. The tangs on the inner gear should be justified to the rear of the transmission. If backwards the torque convertor will not go in far enough. Some gears have timing marks that can be seen after disassembled.
