Smooth Cowl
-
I finished up this cowl this morning. It came out great. The jig actually makes it pretty easy but it is still time consuming.... LockDoc

Re: Smooth Cowl
looks clean......you ought to get a patent pend. on this, then find some company to buy your idea before they steal it and start stamping these out by the hundreds.

Re: Smooth Cowl
Great work and cool jig. I,ve been thinking about doing this modification to my truck and adding one of the early 50's manually operated flush mounted air scoops.

Re: Smooth Cowl
Leon do these only fit the convertable top cabs like in the pic?
Joking aside looks real sweet.

Re: Smooth Cowl
The mesh grille is aftermarket. Most of the BB vendors will have them until you shave the cowl or if you want to keep the vents operable.

Thanks for the kind words guys. My friend Ron and I do them from time to time and sell them. If you are interested PM me. Not really a how to, but I did post some pictures and told a little bit about the process. I guess I could do a "how to" on the next one. LockDoc

Looks great and probably fits a heck of a lot better than the fiberglass one I have on my 68.

Re: Smooth Cowl
I have looked around and only found the 'glass version. I'm suprised that no companies are punching these out. I woulda thought that the dies could stamp out the blank and if it was a repop part the blank could be stuck in the next die to add the vent. On the other hand my search also showed that 67-68 grills, LWB bed sides, bed floors and roof skins have only been available for the last couple of years. BTW, nice job on your cowl!! I want one too. Looks like I may have to add it to the list of owner modified pieces!

Re: Smooth Cowl
This is cool. I shaved mine too and my dash so there is nothing but steel no pad no speaker and no vents. I like the jig, beats using the actual truck as a jig. The idea really cleans up the truck. I don't think the defroster will work without the cowl vents but who cares.
