How far would you take the truck?

Hey guys, I am trying to decide how far to take my 70 C10. It is going to be a corner burner and go on a major diet. As it looks now it is going to be BBC (540ci likely), T56, 4.10 rear. 27x14x16 tires front and rear with modified suspension. The engine will be moved back, full cage. All this is pretty much decided.
What I havent decided on yet is how far to go with the body/interior. Its either gut it totally, aluminum panels, aluminum floors. In other words a good looking race truck with a radio and lights. Or, I can run a full interior, with some other cool goodies (electric cutouts etc) probably adding 200lbs or so to the truck. Or, I can just run a steel, stock body on that chassis. That would be waaay heavier but it would be easier to do and be done sooner. I want 3800lbs or lighter. As is, the truck weighs in at 4500lbs . Thats just with a sbc too. However I will lose a few hundred pounds pretty easy on it.

If I were you, i'd do some wight distibution work, But don't strip the truck down! (keep those windshield wipers) lol. Keep the interior. there will be faster, but It will be fast, and still be nice and classy/comfy

I saw keep it as close to stock as possible, you will turn more heads that way as more people can relate to a truck that is not stripped and all racey

Theres nothing like a stock, fast, fun, and cool truck. If you should ever plan to sell your truck in the future, I think a stock truck would attract more buyers than a gutted interior race truck so you may want to keep this in mind. However it is your truck and the bottom line is do what makes you happy. Thats my opinion.

If your gonna build a tire burner, drop the BB in it, do the suspension the way you want, leave the body stock, paint black,red ,white or orange and have FUN!!!!!!!!

I have a buddy with a 72 c-10.The interior is pretty much stripped except two race buckets,column,grant wheel,gauges,monster tach and a radio.It has a fuel cell in the bed.The truck is lowered 5 inches in the rear.3.5 in the front.The rearend is a 12 bolt with 3:73's and a mini spool.The trans is a reverse manual valvebodied th350 with a stall convertor.The motor is a 355 roller motor with 8:5.1 compression waiting for a 6-71 blower.Last night we where on main street.I was in my 69 which looks stock.he definitly turned more heads than me.He is running a noisey geardrive.With single chamber flowmasters.His truck is loud.Sounds really good though.His truck is also straight as an arrow with awesome paint and all the emblems and trim still look awesome.My truck is weathered.Still turns heads just not like his does.


Of course he is 19 and I am 18.We are still young and love to go fast in a straight line.


I say if you got a 540 big block under the hood.You are going to need more than a little suspension work.I am not an expert on these trucks.I have messed with them alot.And while they do hook good.Even with the 350 I had I could still break the tires loose at 55mph.

Keep up the input guys. As for the stock thing.... no thanks. Too slow and Im never going to sell this thing. I guess the smart thing to do is do it with option #2. Custom chassis with full interior. Reason I think its the smart thing is because I can always gut it and make it faster later. If I did it the other way I would have to go slower. And we all know that its a real pisser when your car/truck is slower than before. In case you guys didnt notice, thats 14" wide rubber front and rear . That will compensate for a lot. THose tires are not DOT approved (but thats what my tire groover is for ) so they will not see the rain. WHat do I need windshield wiper for then?

Lose the inner fenders and replace everything you can with aluminum or fiberglass. Those fiberglass body parts are really expensive! It would be fun to see how much weight you could pull from that bed and still have it sturdy enough to hold up when someone leans against it. The floor is really heavy and could use some weight reduction! Go with a wood bed sans wood and use only enough cross members to hold it on...LOL! This would be a fun project! Do you think you can get 900 lb out of it? Remove the heater, glove box door, parking break assy...everthing you don't need to run it!!!!!!!
