700R4 Puking Oil
Just the other day, I noticed my truck had a drip of oil under it. I got under it to check it out and got a drop of ATF oil in my eye (it actually didn't hurt at all).
The oil was running from either the TV cable (where it goes into the transmission) or the dipstick tube. I changed the dipstick tube gasket and it didn't help. A closer examination showed that the oil was running out between the governor housing and the TV cable. I assume it is coming from the TV cable where it goes into the transmission. I checked the bolt and it is snug. What seals oil from coming out there? Why would it start leaking suddenly? |

Re: 700R4 Puking Oil
Based on your title, I recalled a '56 Mercury that I had. It was puking transmission fluid out of the dipstick tube, onto the exhaust manifold. Burning ATF doesn't smell very good, and doesn't impress the ladies at all. In my case, it was a vent on the transmission case that had stopped up and that forced the ATF up the filler tube due to pressure within the transmission case.
The question is stilll not answered, tho. I don't know if these transmissions have anything like that old Merc had, or not. But, if it does and if it is stopped up, it's a possibility.

Now that you say that I think these do have a little port wit a hose on it. But it doesn't leak while its running. Just when its off.

There is an o-ring on the plastic end of the TV cable. It could have failed.
