Clutch / Slave Cylinder problems! Please help!
Hello all - I have a 94 chevy 4x4 5speed. It has the hydraulic clutch / slave cylinder.
Here's my situation..... I unbolted the part that goes into the transmission/ bell housing trying to get to the starter to work on it. Well, when i bolted it back in, the clutch pedal went to the floor once with almost no "back pressure" against my food, and now is just stiff - won't depress at all. I have tried 3 times to take it back out of the bell housing (2 bolts hold it in), but same result. Have I messed something up? Is it just mis-aligned? Hoping I can fix this on my own. There was no fluid leakage, it just seems to be not lined up right or something... maybe there's a trick i don't know about!? Thanks so much for any help that you can give! David |

There is a ball and socket that the clutch fork sits on to make it pivot and maybe by chance you knocked it off?

ahhhhh.. any idea how i can check that? I couldn't quite get up in there and see into that hole. Wondering how I recover from that if that's the case?
Is it possible that its just not aligned right? |

I'm assuming the slave cylinder is on the outside of the bellhousing vs. the slave that is internal to the bellhousing on the late model vehicles (I have two like that).
I'd bleed the slave first off. It almost sounds like the slave was disconnected from the master and not reconnected. It's always good to bleed the master cyl. on a regular basis to keep fresh fluid in the system. It gets pretty cruddy otherwise...

Yes thats very possible. "should" be a sealed unit and when you unbolt the part at the trans its still sealed except for the rod that goes to the clutch fork. If you go and try bleeding that before you figure out what is going on it could give you a real headache.. I wouldnt try bleeding anything since that was not why you took it off to begin with.

I had a similar problem with my 93 K2500. I ended up buying a new slave cylinder and it had a strap over the actuator rod to keep it from over extending when being installed. If you are going to ty and use your old slave, I would say to bleed the pressure off and be sure that the rod engages in the clutch fork socket. My truck has an NV4500 and the bellhousing on it has an access plug that can be removed to be sure that this is happening.
