...picture request.

...any pics of a front brake drum set up with the drums taken off, leaving the brake shoe and springs in plain sight. Just want to compare and piece the pieces of my Frankenstein set up.

eh...I just got a set from Napa that was a perfect match (for $13 something/each), but 'Made in China'. 3 year warranty FTW vs. 1 yr @ Oreillys ($10/each) and 90 days @ Autozone ($8 something/each).

They had kits as well for $3something, but I have no experience doing this and would not risk it nor my safety just to save some $$.

Re: ...picture request.

My one question to the newbie. But why call it Frankenstein set up.Its all they had it was that way of thinking.Be glade they did it in steps.not like now days how thing are built Nor what you have sitting in the front drive way that will only last 5-10 years before the computer crashes or the government.Put out a 666 Code to kill your computer controlled car or truck or Bike so that you have to buy a new one.

So before you start talking trash about the guys that did the best they could with the thinking back then.Even tho your not use to doing drum brakes they last 2 times longer then the disc brakes do.

Now with that out of the way.there was one man back in the 40's or 50's that had all Disc brakes his name was tucker and you want to know about Frankenstein set up. get close to one of them cars back in the 40's and 50's where there where no disc brakes on the market.

there are a lot of guys on here that like the 4 cycle 194 engine that came in the 1960--68 chevy 1/2 ton trucks some guys like going back in time to a simple time where it was cake to work on these trucks.

I live in the past the Future is in trouble.Technology has come to fast at a price. So don't per judge what some of the best designers had to work with.

to days cars will never have that free thinking and openness to dream and build true art again and with that i'm sadden.

Been in the junking business for over 20 years.I've seen car's and trucks slip throw my hands do to I can't save them all.

To all that has these works of art you honer the dreamers the builds and the designers with that same compassion.

these works of art's have flaws but nothing like there younger bothers

...MAYBE I use the term because the motor, and certain mechanics are not put together correctly. PO that mickey moused the truck just to sell it in running condition for the time being and come to find out that all that was said and done to sell the car was a bogus lie, 85% of it. At least he was honest about the motor year ('78), the transmission being a TH350, and the truck being able to be driven home (80+ miles away). After that, it leaks...and you find things that makes you shake your head. I wouldn't had paid the extra 100 bucks if I had known this and he was more str8 up with what he was selling. Anyways, KARMA will get him back! Maybe the next person buyer...

HUH??? Lay off the caffeine*,man...WHOA!! (*Or,fill in the blank)
Talk about jumping to conclusions, especially when you seemed to miss the point right from the get-go. It was perfectly clear to me this guy,who isn't a newbie since he's been a member for over two years, was referring to the condition his brakes were in at the hands of the previous owner. The whole topic of the thread being a need to see a properly assembled brake system would further make that all the more clear. Who said anything about the workers at the assembly plant or GM's design? He must think it's ok since he wants to get it put together correctly and not change it.
I agree with a lot of what you say,but just can't see how it applies here.

Re: ...picture request.

I do remember fastwillie, back in my teenage years of infinite widsom and knowing all the answers I rebuilt many of them, one time I told a guy I would do a complete brake job, rebuilding wheel cylinders and all for $4 per wheel, him buying the parts of course, lol, I very quickly realized where my head was when I said that, I was single at the time and money was not an issue so it had to be stupidity or alcohol, lol, I did it because I told him I would but that was the last time, lol, now I just buy new wheel cylinders

Re: ...picture request.

What! $16 to rebuild 4 wheel cylinders is good money these days! But,not 20 years ago when making money was easier...sheesh! I never bothered with rebuilding cylinders and it seemed like every time anyone I knew did they ended up with leaking cylinders and replaced with new anyway.
