driveshaft installation

I'M to the point in my build that i will be installing the driveshaft.i bought the truck without a engine and tranny.
so far i have installed a a 350 engine and a th 4oo tranny.
everything to this point has lined up.i didn"t have to move the cross member for the tranny it bolted right up.my question is on the drive shaft.its a one piece and i haven"t measured the lenght yet.will this just bolt in and how far should the spline insert into the tranny.the spline has some surface ruston it should i just clean in up with a scouring pad and wd-40 .And should i grease the spline going in as well as the rear yoke.

Check the fit on the drive shaft spline count and 400 tranny, if its good then you`ll need 1/2 to 3/4 inch of spline movement aft/ forward for the rear axle arch up/down.

with your rearend under load (depending if your truck is lowered might have to have jack stands under rear axle to get under truck) push the slip yoke all the way in tranny and pull it back out 3/4 of a inch.......that's at least what the driveline told me when i had a one piece drivline made a couple months ago.

You should deffinately clean the rust off the spline with some Quad 0 steel wool and then lube it with wd-40 or even just some vaseline , also put some on your finger and rub some around the inside of the transmission tailshaft seal ... This help prevent your seal from getting ruined during instalation and causing a leak at the tailshaft ... just my 2 cents
