Re: Show Me your Trucks with Steel Wheels and Hubcaps

All 4 rims were originally white. The back rims are now silver bc these are my snow tires and have not had a chance to paint them white.. I really need to paint 6 rims-- bought the paint stripper, sand paper, primer, paint and clear---ill get to it 1 day!

Wouldn't be a new member if I didn't dig up an old thread right away. Any body have more like Yezzi's? I like the deep wheels and poverty caps!

Re: Show Me your Trucks with Steel Wheels and Hubcaps

2000 or so Express Van 16 inch eight lug steelies, stock center caps and trim rings. You have to get replacement lug nuts so the plastic caps that hold the center caps on can attach, but then you don't have to find 16.5 tires.

Wasn't hard to find 4 years ago (last time I did tires on it). My biggest complaint is picking the damn things up They weigh about 70 lbs. each.

Next set of tires I'll probably just go with an aluminum wheel in a 16 and a good E load range tire and call it done. Probably take 80 lbs. of rotational mass out of the truck

Re: Show Me your Trucks with Steel Wheels and Hubcaps

Not on the truck yet since we're still building it up ('79 GMC SWB) & also still need to be powder coated to match the color in the "GMC" lettering on the hub cap. Wheel & trim ring are from Wheel Vintique (via Summit) - hub cap is NOS part.

Plan is to run 15x8's in the front & 15x10's in the rear with Diamond Back 2-3/4" white wall tires all the way around (235/70 + 275/60).

I need to do a better job of hiding the wires but at this point i just threw it together to see if it would work.

Check out post #40 (Mrhino) up above. Those are 16.5's which was extremely common throughout the 70's on the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.

Mine has them as well but can't post a picture at the moment.

Not aware of any 17's from the factory during the square body generation, you either got 15's on the light duty trucks, or the 16.5's on the heavier trucks. Later when the 16.5's were phased out the heavy trucks got 16's.
