I want to have a " JUST MARRIED" tailgate made for my wedding, anyone know a builder for my project?

Re: custom lettered tailgates

you might want to check with a local signmaker and get a vinyl sign applied to the tailgate that would b easy to remove when the honymoon is over

Re: custom lettered tailgates

That's a great idea! I know some guys who could have used one like that a few times

What do you mean "builder" do you want the tailgate embossed? I figure you want it lettered,so do as Cdowns suggested and take it to a sign shop. If you want to keep it as a momento I suggest having it painted on. Maybe an airbrushed scene of the wedding somewhere on there, too.

Re: custom lettered tailgates

That's a good idea. Start with a blank cover and emboss it. A press with removable plates would cost a fortune though. I have never seen a custom one before. I think it would be easier to raise lettering than emboss it (think fiberglass and bondo with a lot of time)

My statement would never fit "I am married with a family that is why the truck is still in primer".

Best of luck on the marriage. Its not as bad as us old guys make it out to be.

Re: custom lettered tailgates

get a magnetic sign made, pop it on/pop it off

get a spare tailgate and have it painted, that way you can swap them out and still have an original of both

or do like Travolta did in Urban Cowboy, get name licensed plates for the back window

Re: custom lettered tailgates

If you've got the $$$ someone will make it. I would start checking with custom body shops or hot rod shops in your area to see if they've got anyone that would want to tackle the job.

I would keep your options open to idea of stickers, banners, or vehicle magnets.

buy a non embossed tailgate and hand paint the letters with a beveled edge style that simulates the embossing, then hang it in your garage afterwards.
Add some script lettering for the date and you have a bigass wedding memento....i'd do it but i'm in So Cal.

Re: custom lettered tailgates

Just think for a second the cost of creating male and female dies to stamp letters in a tailgate whether individually or all of them! Then consider the press needed to emboss ( or deboss ) reverse letters....plus you need just the outside skin off the gate in order to do it. I have heard of people using bondo to create raised letters before and I think that's as close as someone could get. I have a 10 ton louver press and have considered making letter dies to refurbish CA YOM plates but to do what you want would cost exorbitant amounts, as in amounts that would certainly cause a divorce!

Re: custom lettered tailgates

It's a good thought, stamping the tailgate. I think others mean well by suggesting paint, vinyl graphics, and such because these are things that can actually happen. You must realize to stamp Embossing means a tailgate requires disassembling, making dies, pressing, and reassembling the tailgate before finishing. I'd estimate you could probably come close to buying a house somewhere for what that would cost. And...I'm not sure your fiance would be willing to wait that long.

Re: custom lettered tailgates

the closest thing I can think to an embossed tailgate but still be within reasonable cost is to take a flat panel tailgate, no lettering or anything, go to a sheet metal/air conditioning company with a plasma cutter, cut an outer panel, like a stencil, with whatever you wanted cut with a plasma cutter, paint the flat panel as a background and then lay the stenciled panel over it and take it from there
