48-54 chevy headlight bezel swap

ive seen some trucks swap out headlight rings with the '53/'53 buick ones. i really dig this look. just wondering who here has done this and how much hacking is involved? i'm not afraid to cut up the fender (mine aren't all that great to begin with) just wanted an idea of what you did to make them fit.

here are a couple pics of a truck with them installed. its NOT my truck, but id love to hear from the owner/builder.
I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS TRUCK, IT'S MY MOTIVATION!!!

Re: 48-54 chevy headlight bezel swap

i'll be of zero help, but chime in anyway (i.e. my usual contribution). I have to admit, when it comes to bodies, I like to leave 'em as stock as the day they rolled off the line, but I have to admit, the headlight bezels above look PRETTY DARN GOOD! Better lookin turn signal than the General did back in the day - I can't believe I said that. Well, in this case, I guess it was the same General, just a different minion he slapped 'em on. Looks good and looks like it could have been stock.

I'm with you. i usually prefer a more stock appearance (minus suspension drop type stuff....but i love these headlight rings.) the main thing i like is the turn signal location.
i just picked up a set and upon first mock up, they fit pretty close. seems like i'm going to have to open up the headlight "hole" in the fender. as i figure it out i'll post pics.

THanks.

Re: 48-54 chevy headlight bezel swap

There is probably something in his build thread as he documented the whole build pretty well.

There are two ways to do it. One is to use a piece of the Buick fender fitted up to the truck fender and the other is to build out from the truck fender to the headlight bezel.

I've always liked that look on these trucks when it was done right.

Re: 48-54 chevy headlight bezel swap

I've always liked this swap on the AD trucks and have also been thinking of doing it. Are the headlight rings available in the aftermarket or does one have to find an original?

I can't find these bezels anywhere, there is not anyone that makes a repro? I found like 1 or two on ebay, but they are in terrible shape and they want too much.

Got mine off ebay. Decent shape. One dent, but chrome is good. Like 65$ shipped. Keep looking, they're out there.

There should be plenty of photos on the thread that Orrie posted the link on or find Sarge's other threads as there are a lot of photos of that truck floating around.
