your opinions wanted
well i'd like to make this short but can't so here goes. i'm in the process of redoing my truck. currently a black 72 stepper, i am going to a fleetside bed and thinking of ditching anything chrome other than trim rings and centercaps on a set of rally's. i mean absolutely no chrome, bumpers, grill shell, door handles, door locks, wiper arms, and hopefully vent window frame will be black. the reason i'm doing this is i don't want to buy all new chrome stuff. (it's too expensive and don't want repop stuff i'll just have to replace every couple years) i want to know what ya'll think. i have a buddy who powdercoats and he's gonna do it all reasonable. i also have a question about the vent window frame and if anybody makes a new one that comes in black and not the chrome as i have 3 other trucks and would save my good set now for one of those. i also have enough rally wheels that i'm gonna do a set of all 8's in black and a set of 7's and 8's in silver and be able to swap them back and forth depending on my mood. i would love any feedback positive or negative i want honest opinions to see what everyone thinks. thanks dennis

Re: your opinions wanted
Yea, I would keep the chrome. As you were describing your plan, all I could envision is it would look similar to every other cheap plastic import out there with missing hub caps.
I know "newer" chrome does cost quite a bit of money but in my opinion, it is worth it. But at the end of the day, it is still your truck. And who knows, with your vision of what you're thinking, it might turn out to be pretty sweet! Good luck! Keith |

Re: your opinions wanted
I like black with chrome accents. Bumpers, mirrors, door handles and window trim. But if you like blacked out everything go for it.

Re: your opinions wanted
I think the look you are going for is more a "stealth" Than a monochrome.I agree that it would be easy to switch back to chrome,if you ever wanted/needed to.I assume you're thinking a shiny finish?Either way I agree with the "It's your truck" sentiment.Besides we all have to have our own style.

Re: your opinions wanted
thanks again for the input, i mainly thought about going all black just to get the truck back together cheaply and be happy with it and if someday i get the money or get tired of it i could buy some chrome stuff and put it on there, but right now buying a new grill shell, bumpers, and all other stuff is just not practical as i'm not as rich as i wish i was. and yes i thought it would look more stealth and yes it will be gloss black. but i would still like black vent window frames for sure and don't know if i could powdecoat them so any help there would be great.

Re: your opinions wanted
It sounds incredibly drab, but if your going to do it go all of the way. Wiper arms, mirrors, rear sliding window, grill emblem, wheels etc...... UNLESS you leave some highly customized items bright. Such as billet grill emblem, polished rims with black center sections, billet mirrors....... This would then highlight these items, and show them off.
Hmmmmm, I just might do my Impala like that.Love ideas, thanks, my imagination is really going now. I hope this doesn't get really expensive. Last time this happened, I was just going to rebuild my engine, I'm still working on that simple rebuild. |

Re: your opinions wanted
I'm not a big fan of monochromatic and, like Stomper said, it's kind of an 80s thing. That said, it seems like everyone does the "black out" treatment and literally does it in Black! Have you considered doing the treatment, but opting for something other than black?

Re: your opinions wanted
i considered going orange but i think it wouldn't look right plus my buddy that powdrercoats does alot of stuff for a local trike shop and does it all in black so he can do it cheap. yes i'm gonna do everything i can bumpers, grill, wiper arms, door handles, door locks, vent windows, and i'm thinking of going black and grey inside and having my window cranks, vent window handles, and my shifter (yet to buy) all done in black. i will have black carpet and paint and then dash pad, seat, and headliner done in grey. also door panels will be grey with a black insert and arm rest (72 style) the insert will be a covered wood grain insert from a sierra i have froma parts truck. the more i thought about it today i'm gonna do it. like it's been said if i change my mind i can find chrome stuff. thanks for all the input though. and btw i'm gonna take the original grill emblem apart and make the center hugger orange and another friend is gonna make me some some stickers for my rally centers that are black with an orange bowtie. the only other orange is gonna be on the autometer gauges. the only shiny stuff will be centers, trim rings, and when you pop the hood. gonna have everything polished up hopefully. but i may powdercoat that stuff too and just leave the grooves shiny. plus the rad support, inner fenders, hood hinges, and anything else that i can get off will be coated as well.

Re: your opinions wanted
and in answer to wild4wheels question, i had given 1 piece windows a thought but after seeing what everyone on here has to say and my buddy who powdercoats has them in his 67 i'll save my money as i like to drive my truck in the summer and don't want to fight the windows everytime i want to roll em down.

Re: your opinions wanted
another idea i forgot to mention was my buddy told me i should put 454SS logo's on it since it is a 454 and will be all black. i have a set of ss wheels right now and thought if i did i should use the 93 style sticker that imo look better than the originals. i don't know about this idea though probably not but thought i'd throw it out there for opinions.

Re: your opinions wanted
After seeing the pic of your truck I like it. I say murder it out all the way and tint the windows as dark as you can.
