Guys,

I don't know much about the 50th anniversary trucks. Is this a decent deal?

I want it. That's a nice truck. And if the milage is correct I would think it is worth that all day long.

Yep - worth every dime of it. If I had the $, it would be in my driveway by the weekend.

looks very nice. Bummer the seat wasn't redone in the correct color... but none the less, it's a beauty!

Re: 68 50th Anniversary SWB on CL

I agree its real nice looking truck but... why would you have to paint a 21,000mile truck. To stay in decent shape for 37 years the truck would have had to be garaged when not in use and if was garaged it shouldn't need paint. The same question comes to mindg about the motor and I know 307 cams weren't the greatest but why do all that motor work at 21,000 miles ????

You bring up some very good points. Still it looks to be a very nice truck. Would still be worth the asking price if the rest of the truck is solid.

Are you thinking of buying the truck? I'd be curious as to the history of the truck and I would think the present owner/seller should have that info.

Re: 68 50th Anniversary SWB on CL

I wouldn't question the repaint, a 40 year old nice paint job is still a 40 year old paint job. It would most likely be worn and dull.
Samw with the motor. Assuming the mileage claim is real, that means it sat around for long periods of time, and dry starts kill cams.
One thing i DO question... whats with the 283/327 intake manifold?

It looks so good, but I would think with the repaint and such they would have added power brakes. SHARP truck non the less

Re: 68 50th Anniversary SWB on CL

If the truck sat out in the weather and under a tree that dropped junk all over it, then the paint would be ruined and would need to be freshened up.

I got a 1968 Caprice 2 door with a 396 in it once, and it was a documented under 10k mileage car.

The paint was ruined from being neglected in the back yard with a tarp over it, and the condensation in the morning then hot days repeated for many years basically cooked the paint off. The car was parked because the motor ran rough, and after I got hold of it I found it had a flat lobe on the cam.

I'd say this truck has gone through a mild restoration, and looks very nice in my opinion.

Re: 68 50th Anniversary SWB on CL

Something seems a little off to me. Repaint, wrong intake, Late model wheels, Seat recovered, dual exhaust. Just seems like a lot of changes for a 21K truck. Look closely at the brake pedal. It may give you a clue as to the actual mileage. (assuming it has not been replaced)

Re: 68 50th Anniversary SWB on CL

Not an authentic Low-Mile truck but very presentable! Someone added a 4bbl intake/carb, the bed floor was 100% straight but had rust coming up from under a support. It had the outer rockers replaced but the work was well done. Not a CST. Here are some pics.

Looks nice...stinks it was misrepresented (to the current owner or by them)

Still probably an 8-9K truck though in the condition its' in for a 50th anniv with new paint???

I think you're probably close on the value. It's a nice straight truck with very nice paint. The rust in the bed is a turn-off, along with the 3-on-the-tree. A wood floor and a 396/TH-400 would make it more interesting to me. At least the SPID was intact and matched the unmolested VIN tag. I don't have a clue how unusual a SWB 50th is.

Re: 68 50th Anniversary SWB on CL

with no numbers to back up my statement... of the pickups, it seems the short/fleet is damn uncommon... dare I say rarest of them. The only 50th pickup that seems harder to find is a stepside. I've only seen one, a short/step, and never any other sightings. It does seem the long/fleets, in both 10 and 20 series is much more common... even the longhorn in 50th colors seems more common.
THat does look like a very nice truck. I was starting to question the mileage claim myself, between the things that were posted, and then when I looked at the c/l add again and saw the core support and hood hinges having fresh paint on them too.
Assuming I was in the financial position to buy it... i probably would given the info here.

So what did the seller say when ( if ) you pointed out the discrepancies, aka.. rockers been done and rust in the box to him/her?

I just stated as a matter of fact that this was not an original low-mileage truck. The owner stated that they were told it was original and that it said the miles were original on the title. I said that I believe they were told the miles were original but I'm quite confident this is not a super low-mile vehicle. I'd bet this truck could be bought for $9,000 (but I'm not sure).
