2001 swb silverado

hey i happened upon a 2001 silverado at a used car lot that i'm considering getting. i don't have pictures of it yet, but maybe by the end of the day i might. it has 154,000 miles and a hitch. 4.8l v8 and auto trans. heres the issue... the salesman told me he got the truck from a guy that refused to pay the bill for the work that was done on it. i know if i buy this truck i will have to replace the door locks and ignition key in case the original owner has a back up set. the salesman says there will be no issues with the title because he did everything by the letter of the law and have the correct papers for all. he's asking $4000 and a 1year warranty for the new transmission he just completed. would you recommend picking this up or walking away?

Re: 2001 swb silverado

I don't see any problems with buying it my 2000 i own was involved in a police chase and left in a field. The tow company i bought it from got a clean clear title and new keys. they never caught the guy who was running and he never came after his truck and the guy took the keys when he took off running. If the dealer did the paper work right there is nothing the old owner can do but go to jail if he tries to get his truck back from you i would not even worry about changing locks or anything. I would suggest to do a vin check to make sure everything is legit and it was not stolen.

PS very nice looking truck also

Re: 2001 swb silverado

That is a sweet ride for a good price...it would be around tha same price to add a alarm with kill switch than swap tha locks & switch..plus tha cost of keys & programing would be some coin. if it sits there on tha lot all tha time.. i don't think you would have a issue with him coming for it, cause i think he would have got it already...

Re: 2001 swb silverado

i finally talked myself into moving forward with the purchase of the truck today. unfortunatly, the shop i'm buying from and my bank starts giving me the run around. the shop, acts like my bank isn't going to pay them the money and the my bank doesn't credit the shop as knowing the proper procedure to sale a vehicle. so they are on my cell phone going back and forth while i'm caught in the middle. so instead of driving it home tonight, if i'm lucky, i'll be driving it tomorrow. i wish i had the cash to just pay 4 it out right, but it is what it is.

Re: 2001 swb silverado

***update***
the shop told me last night that they would call me this morning at 9am after they fix their paper work and then i could pick up my truck. its now 1205pm and i havent heard a word yet. i call up USAA, and ask them whats the status before i call the shop. they have always been nothing but professional and courteous when i deal with them... this time i could tell the guys were annoyed with the sistuation. but they still were polite when they told me it will be another 24hours because the shop neglected to send the title info with USAA as the lein holder. (yesterday when i was at the shop and had them both on speakerphone.... i heard the USAA representitve inform the shop owner that they need to list USAA as the lien holder!) and these guys still forget?

all signs are telling me to walk away, its been this much of an hassle already. i fell like tomorrow when i get the truck, the engine is going to lock up or catch fire or something. if i could find another truck in similar shape and price...

Nice truck. Now put a 6.0L and 4L80e in it ... might as well add a supercharger while you're at it...

Nice truck.
I use to own a '99 Silverado that was the same color.

What size tires are on those 20's?

Re: 2001 swb silverado

thanks for the approval guys. as you can tell i was really concerned about getting it. now that i got it, i love it. the rims are 285/50R20. love the size but hate the price when it's time to replace one.
my 'soon to upgrade' list is: installing remote start/alarm, power locks, find a good tonnuea cover, a nice hood scoop thats sporty and classy. after i get those things together i will paint it like my '08 Busa. orange/black. oh yeah, eventually i want to lower it a little, but later.
