Re: 1972 LS3 C10 build

Highlander was one of the option packages. The parchment interior, Black carpet and dash, the seat, and the options list of whatever else the trim was made it a highlander.

That tag in te glove box is the key. Did they sand the tag off yet? I'd keep that in tact just for the nostalgia of the truck. Or at least locate another glove box door.

Yes the tag in the glove box is still intact. Rick and I both agreed that it must stay for the nostalgia factor.

other than that does the frame rails need that much notch on both sides?

Thanks. I bought the accessory drive kit from the Chevy house that I got the motor from and we were planning on using the factory A/C compressor but after more investigation decided not to use it. When I decided to go with the Vintage Air kit it only made sense to use their compressor and move it up. The frame rails needed to be notch for clearance for exhaust manifolds, etc and could of been less on one side than the other but we wanted a balanced look. Once you box them they are MUCH stronger then the factory frame.

I had Rick check the glove box tag and he just emailed me and said there is no reference to "highlander" on the build tag but I pulled the original window sticker that I still have and there it is 1611AE BLUE HIGHLANDER PLAID CLOTH TR for a whole $68.00.

Re: 1972 LS3 C10 build

The "deluxe wheel covers" were part of the package as well...But the plaid seat is the biggest thing people associate with the package. Highlanders weren't really all that "rare," but I don't think many of them were half-ton short/fleets. Here is a good Highlander write-up.

Not sure what all you have planned for the interior, so it might look totally out of place, but you could use some of the og plaid fabric on your new buckets, maybe just in the center with leather on either side. I bet you could find a couple yards through SMS auto fabrics.

Re: 1972 LS3 C10 build

Thanks for the link to the highlander story...good stuff. We have not decided on interior yet but Rick also suggested maybe using something that matched the plaid look on the insert of the seats. I am going to have to make a decision pretty quick cause the way Rick's guys work it won't be long before paint and interior.

Very cool to have the price sheet. Man, why didn't everyone get power brakes back then??? I know $8 then is $40 now...but still...$40 for power brakes??? NO BRAINER! (almost the same price as door edge guards)
I see why tilts are rare....$56 upgrade....would be more like $300 in today's dollars (about what they sell for used )

I looked really close at the invoice and is was actually $48.00 for power brakes. The price was where a old fold was and it was hard to read but even at $48 I think you would have to get the upgrade.

Makes more sense to me now....that's 270 in today's dollars....still though....just over a 1% increase in the price to get the power brakes...

Thanks. Please feel free to ask any questions you might have as I and Rick have done tons of research on this build and would be happy to help in any way we can.

KUDOS to your Grandfather for keeping an unwrecked original straight truck.. IMO updated LS3 drive it anywhere is a great choice, there are some nice original restored trucks, but fewer of the kind of truck your are building. Great job Can't wait to see the finished rig. RJ's crew has some real talent.

Still working on body work but Rick sent me this so I thought I would post it if anyone was interested. We are going to reattach it inside the glove box after we paint the truck.
